Description

This finished pencil cover was created in 2008 for Sky-Doll Lacrima Cristi Collection #2. The image was later re-used for a Marvel/Soleil co-publication collecting this in English as well as being used for a print. The art comes from France in a nice frame that shows off the work well. The original image is signed in the lower right. When published, they decided to invert the image but it looks great either way! I was a big fan of Sky-Doll when the first English translations occurred. I like the style which had element of anime/manga but also a Heavy Metal Magazine type style and theme to it. I've spent years trying to locate a page as they are both scarce and expensive. I like Barbucci's other works too and was ready to settle for one of those but then this came up. Most of his work is done in finished pencils but the Sky-Doll interiors I have seen have been finished with colors by Barbara Canepa. I believe Canepa was also the colorist for the final colored versions of this artwork. See additional images for printed versions of this piece.

Really great looking art. But now that I see the original upside down as published, I definitely prefer it upside up the way it was drawn!

Glad to see where this ended up. Was considering it for a while and it is a wonderful piece. Brbucci and Canepa's creation is one of my favorite European comics and this drawing is a good example of why. One of the things that popped to mind when I first saw it in this format (not color) was how much it reminded me of Claire Wendling's work. Huge Congrats!!

I'm a fan of Barbucci since he started his career in comics drawing Disney characters, in the 90's... he was only 20 when his firt story was published and I knew he was destined to do great things!

Really love his creator-owned works and this Sky-Doll cover is no exception... just beautiful
