DescriptionOur hobby is defined by a selection of great works by renowned creators. Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four. Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns. Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein. And, of course, Lou Harrison's Mankini Thor. Honestly, I'm not really sure who Lou Harrison is, but there's no denying that his depiction of Thor for Marvel Swimsuit Special #4 was a generational shift in how we understood art.The burden of responsibility for caretaking of this masterpiece is great. Perhaps too great. Following in the example of great modern works like the cover to Ultimate Fallout #4 and others, it has been decided that ownership of this relic would be shared across a cabal of stewards to ensure its provenance and preservation for years to come. This cabal also guards the sordid history of this definitive work and the tale of its liberation. (Or maybe ask us over a drink at a con. It's honestly a really interesting story.) We know this definitive piece will garner the attention of aficionados and investors alike who may tempt our cabal with promises of untold riches. Yet we are vigilant. We know we have assembled the appropriate cadre of caretakers to usher this masterpiece onto a new age of followers and admirers. No monetary prize could ever outweigh the moral imperative we bear to keep this piece in the public view. We are honored to share Mankini Thor here on CAF and welcome you on your virtual pilgrimage. I leave you with the immortal words of whoever the heck writes the Marvel Swimsuit Special captions, "Hamming it up or hammering it up, Thor sure packs a wallop." Long live the king! I bow at your sexy mankini-ness. I am in awe of your chiseled thighs. I long for that Lightning to surround me. Sea creatures tremble at thy sight.

I am beholden by it's glory and awestruck by the wonder that is mankini Thor! Quite possibly the most beautiful piece of OA on CAF! 🙌🏻 🔨 ⚡️

A triumph of the human spirit with the apex of human anatomy that is very eloquently and majestically presented. It has the full support of nature itself to split open the skies so the gods may peer through and bear witness to Thor as a glorious specimen. Tanned to a golden god hue that can barely be contained by the hammock made of the very threads that were woven from the shorned, flying winged ram named Crius Chrysomallos. Who was the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea, and Theophane, the daughter of Bisaltes, a son of Helios and Gaia. The very same material that made the golden fleece that Jason and his Argonauts were to retrieve. Or this could have been off the rack at Old Navy or the Marshalls.

Not to be pedantic, but didn't the Golden Fleece, like, just grow on a, y'know, a sheep or something?

Isn't Marcus saying the Mankini is woven from the fleece that grew on the ram? I don't know. I'm not about to disagree with Marcus.

Tears streak my face as I utter incoherent prayers and stumble to my knees. The labac idol has returned to his rightful home. The night and day and midsummer nights, dawn and dusk, the orbit of planets and ice cream after buffet, all are ours.

This would be the perfect piece of oa...if he only had even the tiniestttt gap. But look at those meaty thighs pressed together. They could flatten a piece of rolled art. No daylight. No gap. Scissors would solve this problem.

But the splash between the knee gap is epic!

GUENEVERE:
Tra la! It's May!
The lusty month of May!
That lovely month when ev'ryone goes
Blissfully astray.
Tra la! It's here!
That shocking time of year
When tons of wicked little thoughts
Merrily appear!
It's May! It's May!
That gorgeous holiday
When ev'ry maiden prays that her lad
Will be a cad!
It's mad! It's gay!
A libelous display!
Those dreary vows that ev'ryone takes,
Ev'ryone breaks.
Ev'ryone makes divine mistakes
The lusty month of May!
Whence this fragrance wafting through the air?
What sweet feelings does its scent transmute?
Whence this perfume floating ev'rywhere?
Don't you know it's that dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! That dear forbidden fruit!
Tra la la la la! And we get mankini Thor to boot!

Headliner for the thunder down under. That little piece of fabric is restraining 3000 psi of god. Everyone get out of the pool! Feet are hard to draw. Congrats

How did I live without this piece in my eyes? The pinnacle of your collection, so great it's glory can barely be comprehended by us mere mortals. The best CAF write-up I've seen in ages.

There is Fenris grim
His jaws are open wide
The serpent rises from the waves
Jormungandr twists and turns,
mighty in his wrath
The OA eyes are full of primal hate
Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits
Thor, Hlódyn's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, Ragnarök awaits
Vingthor rise to face the snake with hammer high at the edge of the world
as lightning fills the air as Mjöllnir does it's work the twinfold serpent roars in pain
Thor, Odin's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, your destiny awaits
Thor, Hlódyn's son, protector of mankind, ride to meet your fate, Ragnarök awaits

"I just feel, so, TRAPPED!"
I don't know when.
I don't know how.
But I know something's starting right now...
Finally out of the sea.
I know I will be,
Part of your world.

Dammit...if only Lou had the foresight to add Flounder and Sebastian to this piece. Rob would be waging a full-time war, fighting off the Louvre, Rijksmuseum AND the Guggenheim.

I've been so emotional over this one, took me several days to put a comment on. Thor mankini was an emotional rollercoaster full of ups and downs. As they say, it's darkest before the light and Rob's persistence, only something someone in OA would understand paid off.
I have tears of joy on my keyboard as I write this.
The concept of fractional ownership was created for epic works of art like this and I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to own even a fraction of this glorious image.
Thanks Rob, for sharing this gift from the gods with us!

Look at how the rock not only hides Thor's tiny Liefield-esque feet, but provides the golden backdrop of ocean spray that perfectly frames the scene

Truthier words have never been spoken to power, which is fitting with the power displayed here, anchored by golden locks and a simple mankini.

What is the setting for this piece, does anyone know? Is that a bay view that could be replicated (in loving tribute) for photographs at some convention gathering in San Diego, or San Francisco, or Charlotte?

It's Madripoor. Surely Mankini Thor has the power to manifest the fictional locale in this world.

Ah. I should have known. We should be so worthy as to appear there with him. Maybe Charlotte can fill the void for some.

If there ever was a holy grail in the comic art hobby, this is THE piece to fit that description. Just look at the glowing, golden sheen. History was made the day the hammer fell on this auction. We all stand in its splendid glory. 'Nuff said!

I say thee nay, Ragnarok! If thine sky tis out, verily, thy thighs must be out, too. So decreeith Odin, Lord of Asgard! KRAKA-THIGH!!! I hope to be Norse God enough to wear a mankini one day. Congrats on having THE premier piece of art in this entire joint.

In the early minutes of Saturday it is both hard to believe it has almost been a week, and yet time has also flown by during the many hours the Mankini Thunder has distracted me from this Star Wars holiday week. I await the updates to come, the royal framing, the tales of travel. Sleep is no longer possible, my mind is racing, yet I dream...

Right when I saw this I thought of the song:
"Flash!
Ah-ah!
Savior of the universe!"
Substitute Flash with Thor and it would be perfect, Rarely has a piece truly exhibited what is possible in the medium, pushing to the very limits of artistic GLORY!
