Q&A with Rob R

Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why?

It's so hard to choose! I have so many pieces I love, but if I had to choose one, it would probably have to be the cover to Cosmic Ghost Rider #1. It's easily become the most iconic image of the character and might be the single best example of Geoff Shaw's expert rendering abilities.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

When I started collecting, I knew I wanted to collect pieces from stories that I loved. I also wanted to build a collection that was more than the sum of its parts. Getting into the hobby, my two favorite arcs were Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's God Butcher + God Bomb run on Thor and Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw's Thanos Wins. As I started digging into the hobby, Cosmic Ghost Rider seemed like the perfect focus for my collection if I wanted great art from a variety of artists from stories that I loved. It's been a blast collecting the character and I'm constantly in awe of the incredible collection I've managed to assemble.

How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start?

I've been collecting comic art since March 2019. My journey is likely similar to most in this hobby. I collected comics when I was younger, but fell out of the hobby as I grew up. The Marvel movies reinvigorated my interest in reading the comics. I started collecting comics again and it was only a matter of time before I discovered that one could actually purchase the original art. It's been a short, wild ride since!

How do you display/store your collection at home?

I have several pieces framed and plan to frame the majority of the covers I own. My unframed pieces are stored in mylars with archival backing boards in a large tupperware bucket. I've found 13x19 mylars and boards to be the most effective for storing a wide variety of different sized pieces.

What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions?

I'm actually really happy with my collection! I've pulled together what will unquestionably be in perpetuity the definitive Cosmic Ghost Rider collection while also picking up a few other stellar and nostalgic pieces. While I'm sure I'll pick up a few more Cosmic Ghost Rider pieces along the way, I'm excited to start building a more eclectic collection going forward.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 Cover
This cover is a huge milestone for me and my collection. It's not only my first Geoff Shaw cover, but it's one of the most significant Cosmic Ghost Rider pieces out there. As the cover to the character's first self-titled series, unarguably the most iconic and definitive image of the character, and the debut of the Punisher skull on the character's chest, it is likely only second in significance to the character's first appearance page. This cover was also published as the cover of the trade paperback for the first mini-series and has been published on the recap page of almost every issue of Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make my collection what it is and enormous thanks to Bob for being willing to part with this piece.
