DescriptionSuperman: Doomsday & Beyond was a 1993 novelization of the now classic of the now classic Death of Superman storyline written by Louise Simonson. Additionally it featured the first published work by Alex Ross for DC Comics and proceeded both Marvels and Kingdom Come. It was also interesting in the fact that Alex insisted on drawing the classic version of the character rather than the long haired version which was prevalent at the time.Although Alex created multiple prelims for the final piece, it's historically amazing to think that this was the first time Alex drew professionally for both DC and Superman. The Doomsday hand in the background is clearly different from the final layout, but the Superman character is beautifully rendered very similar to the finished one. Never thought I'd own an Alex Ross piece but now I have to find a painted one. Social/Sharing |

Very nice delicate touch and design! The diagonal motion captures the spirit of Superman to soar beyond any grasp, even the grasp of death. This was when Ross art was in very high demand and his superhero work has always commanded a premium.
