DescriptionI've been a fan of Kitty Pryde since I began reading/collecting comics and I always thought the introduction of Lockheed and decision to keep him around as her pet dragon was a brilliant move for her character. So acquiring a cover with both characters featured front and center on an X-Men cover illustrated by Tom Grummett fits the bill for me perfectly.I really dig the less super heroic and more casual looking outfit Kitty wears here, though I wonder if that's because I'm quite partial to another character I love who also wore a leather jacket and was created and illustrated by Tom Grummett? Perhaps! Don't ask about the claw. In this series, an evil clone of Storm, infiltrating the X-Men, ends up electrocuting Wolverine to death. You can see the splash page of that action elsewhere in this gallery room. She literally fried him down to his skeleton, which was then found by NYPD officers in Central Park. One of his claws was mysteriously missing. Later on, Kitty suddenly appears with the missing claw seemingly embedded within her which she then used as her weapon during battle. If Claremont explained how Wolverine's claw went missing from his skeleton and then mysteriously appeared on Kitty, it had to have been an asinine explanation, as I trained myself decades ago to mentally block out and forget stories/plots/ideas in comics that make no sense to me, feel are stupid, or which I just don't like for whatever reason. But while I don't understand it, I will admit that visually speaking at least, I really do like it. I just wish it wasn't connected to a mysteriously missing claw from Wolverine's skeleton. Either way, I love the characters and the art and didn't buy this for the story, so it's all good! Social/Sharing |

Very cool cover.
Lockheed looks pitch perfect (this side of Paul Smith's) and Grummett managed to create some depth in the piece by closing up on him on the foreground. Kitty looks nice and quite determined here.
(And milfy? I guess she has grown up some since her Claremont/Byrne days ^^...).
Now 2 questions remain in my mind:
-Do you own all the coverS drawn by Grummett for both volumes?
-What about the claw? What. About. The. Claw?

Since the story always comes before the art, it is always the leading medium. However... This cover is beautyful! Congrats, Ruben

Some of the X-artists tried to draw Lockheed as a cute pet. I always liked the mini dragon version Tom depicted here.

Agreed Eric. I always thought it strange when he(it) looked like a pokemon.
Nice cover Ruben! Love when you add another in the Marvel column!

So you're okay with a pet dragon accompanying a woman who can phase through walls (which should make her pretty much indestructible and super-powerful btw. She should be completely overpowered like vision, phasing into people to grab their organs etc) but not with a claw going from one character to another. Cool!
Nice cover art!

Cool cover, but I particularly like the tiny Wolverine head in the bottom left corner.

Max: Do the Claw to Mom, Dad! Do the Claw to Mom!
Fletcher: Uh-oh. You've found the Claw's only weakness. Subzero temperatures!

A perfect Kitty/Lockheed cover image, and a perfect piece for your collection! But, Ruben, if you have trained yourself to forget every asinine comic book story that you have ever read, you must have HUGE chunks of memory loss, haha!

Not into Marvel but Grummett did an excellent job as always. His popularity is well deserved, congrats!

Not going to lie, I really liked Kitty's look in the X-Men Forever series. And I always saw the claw as a bit of a nod to her Age of Apocalypse costume (which was itself a nod to the bond between Kitty and Wolverine, just to close the loop).

Lol, don't ask bout the claw :) Love Kitty's expression but Lockheed definitely makes the cover IMO. Uber face front shot that provides a nice depth between him and pard'ner. Super cool effect. Congrats, Ruben!

Lockheed... comin' at cha...And you know I had to fry ya! Grummett clearly likes leather jackets over tights. Don't judge! And as for that claw… Maybe she phased it into her? I'm not gonna think about that too hard, because I don't want to. :) I like these other Grummett covers you're posting lately, from other titles. He really killed it across a number of titles. Cool find, Rubén. Congrats!

Great cover image of (how could they not be) everyone's favorite X-Men, Ruben! With her one claw here, I guess that makes Kitty, "X-5.75"? I'm with F M (and undoubtedly many others) in thinking that Paul Smith's Lockheed is the definitive one, but I sure do love what Mr. Grummet does here; both he and Kitty look great here, and it's fun to get his take! I never read this run, but from the sound of it... that art is sure good!! :) Congrats, Ruben! Another great grab!
