DescriptionA highly detailed piece of Perez art from the 1995 Incredible Hulk What Savage Beast novel, written by Peter David with Chapter illustrations by George. This is the art that precedes Chapter 24.One of the most amazing facts about this art is how much detail George managed to fit into such a small area. Since you can't tell what size the art is from a scan, the image area is a mere 3 x 6 3/4 inches on a 4 1/2 X 8 3/4 inch piece of bristol board! How he managed to fit all that detail into this space is beyond me. When I bought it from George, he just said, "My eyes were much better then, and I always wanted to put as much as I could into each drawing." George's art never fails to amaze me and this one is no exception. George signed the art when I bought it from him and Peter David signed it at Dragon Con this year, 2022. Social/Sharing |

Wait a sec, that's not Wolverine. That's.... Deathlok with Wolverine claws? What in the name of Sam Hill is going on around here? Oh, and the Hulk appears to be using the Absorbing Man's ball and chain. Maybe this was some sort of Amalgam book?!? Either way, congrats on another Pérez piece, Steve!

I thought the same thing when I bought it, Ruben. Yes, it has something to do with the story but, i don't know what. Also, did you notice that the Thing is wielding Namor's trident? Maybe an alternate reality? Honestly, I love the art, but never read the book.

The composition is fantastic with verticality considered for these characters that play broad and wide!

Yup, I noticed that too. There's definitely some sort of amalgam thing happening in the story. Crazy cool!

This is wicked cool, Steve! WICKED cool. And the fact that so much detail is so densely packed into that small space...? Flabbergasting! :) Beautifully executed - even at that small size all the details are nestled snuggly in place, with no visible misstep - and a fantastic "teaser" image for a chapter heading: who -wouldn't- want to keep reading to find out what's going on. Great piece, Steve - thanks for sharing it and the story behind it!

I've read the book, I can tell you what's going on here; one of the main plotpoints is that Hulk ends up in an alternate version of the Maestro timeline where he wasn't brought there to stop him, and the Maestro has begun collecting different Hulk's from across the multiverse using technology that was left behind by his world's Rick Jones after killing him to amass an army to go back and invade the present day. So each one is basically an alternate version of each Hulk.

Ah, OK that clears things up a bit. So, basically, it's not 3 different characters, but 3 different versions of The Hulk. Thank you for giving me that info, very much appreciated.
