DescriptionTo my knowledge, this Frank Thorne sequence (issue 8, p 15) introduces the long-running trope of Red Sonja fighting a giant serpent (Sigmund Freud would no doubt have a lot to say). This page reveals the full serpent that coils around her and then has flames erupt from its back (a 'flaming cobra' would be a great cocktail for a Sonja-themed party). Hats off to the artist for Sonja's icy-and-determined glare in the final panel.I am also a fan of the detailed face of the monkey that is photo-bombing the third panel (it was later obscured by the colour process in the published comic book). I purchased the page in 2020 at an auction from a collector in Italy. I am still looking for the other pages in this sequence. Hopefully in this lifetime... :) Social/Sharing |

Those first two panels look like a dance, which gives the scene a nice sense of action. Very nice page!

That is a really astute point about the dance poses. I noticed that they were not the typical fighting poses since the motion coils rather than engages from opposing directions. It never occured to me until you mentioned it how much the footwork seem derived from dance.
