DescriptionI've had this image burned into my brain for almost 3 years now. Ever since I saw the preview/promotional images for Boom! Studios new "Planet of the Apes: Ursus" comic series. One of the greatest character designs to come from the original Planet of the Apes was that of Ursus. That face, uniform, helmet and head piece are iconic and perfectly put together. That's why, when I saw this piece I could get get the image out of my head. Paulo Rivera's design, to turn Ursus' helmet into the cage that holds humans just clicks perfectly.I have to pause and thank Mark Hay from SplashPageArt.com and Paulo and Joe Rivera for letting this gem go and making it possible for me to add it to my collection. Thank you guys. The piece was created with Paulo's pencils on one piece of 11x17 Bristol board and his father, Joe Rivera's, inks on another 11x17 Bristol board. The pencils are technical perfect and the inks are lush and deep and without a single flaw. It wasn't until after I committed to purchase the cover that I realized why the image seemed so ubiquitous and seemed to be everywhere I looked....it's because it was everywhere. Aside from being the Cover to issue #1, it was principal promotional and teaser piece for the series in publications. It was also the TPB cover. As well it was not one, but two, sold out prints from Mondo. In the additional images I've included a little montage of the various places this piece was published and used repeatedly. And the advertising worked, I couldn't get this image out of my head. I hope you appreciate it as much as I do. Social/Sharing |

Brilliant idea to have the dual imagery of the helmet and cage !! Paolo is a great designer and unique talent.

This is a stunning piece! There's a reason it was used in many places! Huge congrats!
