DescriptionContinuing DC's longstanding habit of using fake geographic locations in their universe, this page features quite a splendid image of Superman smashing hi sway into a military stronghold in Tehrac (are they really terrified of offending the government in Tehran?), to stop them from deploying nuclear weapons against the people of Bhutran (Bhutan?.Anyway, when I first laid eyes on this page, the very first thing my eyes went to was Superman's face, specifically, as it caught my eye as a Darwyn Cooke looking face. Anyone else see that? I really love the heroic pose Grummett put Superman in and also really dig the natural and authentic look given to the underground bomb silo. As always, I really appreciate the "economy of line" approach that Rodier took with his finishes. I know it's a bit corny, but I still really like these "Superman against nuclear weapons" stories, as they bring a certain humanity to the character that helps the reader to remember that Superman still fights for the good of humanity by helping to combat real world issues, something that gets easily lost when he's fighting super powered beings from other universes and galaxies. Super nice page with strong figure work by Grummett on Sup' (plus his trademark rocks).
I can see the Cooke reference but I believe his would be even more simplified than Tom's.

That army guy is so polite in the last word balloon ending his sentence with a period instead of an exclamation point! Wonderful wall busting power of Superman by Grummett! This shows Superman's Quest for Peace as he tries to rid the Earth of Nuclear missles by collecting them all into a giant net and throwing them into the Sun. Who made this net? Will this action lead to a nuclear man menace? What part does Mariel Hemingway play? Will Lenny Luthor grow up to be a man and a half? But all that will have to wait, as Grummett's half splash commands out full attention today! I can only see this one take off - Up, Up, and Away!

Nice rotation on that blow Supes! heh pretty sweet half splash! The DC "tradition" of using similar sounding fake city/location names is something that I've always noticed too and in my head I always confuse the "real" name with the fake name.

Superman's wall smashing skills are so kick-ass cool, they had to add an extra "A" and an extra "S" to "CRAASSH!" The Kool-Aid Man would be proud.

It's almost like Superman 4 with nukes and Superman! Glad the page doesn't have some cheesy Nuclear Man villain.

Tehrac..Brilliant. God, the magical world of comics indeed. Worrying about offending Iran and Iraq. Bet you DC sold loads of comics in these countries.

Super spashy panel! Yup, love that, and can see some Cooke in that face :) Cool seein' Supes let a little loose with a booming punch. These guys on the other side of the wall...DONE. Congrats, Ruben!

I can definitely see Cooke. I see a little Eric Larsen, too. Grummett and Rodier are a really nice combo here. And the Evil Facial Hair is a nice vague foreign baddie trope, too. But that Supes vs Nukes storyline never gets old for me, either. Who else is going to do it? Very cool page, Rubén. Congrats!

It's like a 90s reimagining of the Aurora model pose, but more explosive!

Great page! Superman bursting through a wall! Classic. The only guy who did it better was the Kool-Aide Man. lol

Superman busting through a wall with rocks flying everywhere is ALWAYS a crowd pleaser. And yeah I can definitely see Darwin Cooke there in his face. But you know, the fact that Superman can fluently speak other languages mystifies me a bit. I mean, did he learn them as a kid (when it's easiest to learn another language), or later on when he decided to be a journalist. And does our yellow sun increase his intelligence along with his strength? Or did he just study his butt off like a normal mortal would do. Inquiring minds wanna know.

That bottom splash is worth the price of admission. Great art by TG as always - he is so consistently good. Glad I was able to scoop a page before it was sucked into the Ruben collection. Congrats - thanks for sharing!

Awesome page, Ruben! Man, that Superman half-splash had me exclaim out loud when I opened the page! And as charming as the imaginary location of Tehrac must be, how fun is it that Superman speaks fluent Bhutranian? That is all kinds of wonderful. Excellent add to your Grummett gallery, Ruben - I had thought it was pretty comprehensive before, but it couldn't be truly complete without a wall-busting Superman piece. This is beautiful - congrats!
