DescriptionAvengers #148 Cover Jack Kirby What can I say. A cornerstone of my collection, acquired 35 years ago. The Avengers lie defeated at the hands of the Squadron Supreme, with Hyperion holding a broken Thor overhead. The scene was not completely representative of the interior, since Thor did not join the Avengers in this battle, since he was still in the Old West. Kirby did a series of Avengers covers around this time during his return to Marvel following his Fourth World work at DC.Social/Sharing |

wow, amazing- good for you! i thought that perez really started coing into his own with this issue and recognized and loved this kirby cover as well!

my Avengers issues from that era are lovingly very well worn - probably received dozens if not 100s of readings. Perez definitely matured over that story arc...and Kirby was just an underappreciated bonus at the time. Avengers fans had be spoiled by then by runs of Buscema, Smith, Adams and now Perez. Easy to forget Jack started it all...

According to The Jack Kirby Checklist, the inker credited is Al Milgrom.

I also saw it credited to Esposito but Milgrom makes more sense.
This is wonderful cover -- always wondered where it was. I remember picking this up from my lcs at the time The Avengers was becoming my favorite book. Thank you for sharing it.

This cover is so good that I am willing to forgive the whiskers on Hellcat's mask. Superb cover, huge congrats!
