DescriptionI'm starting another Spidey Theme Week with this fantastic cover by one of my very favorite artists, Tony Daniel. One of my earliest art acquisitions was a Batman cover by Tony, and since then I have picked up other great DC covers and interiors from him. I was so happy when he drew a couple Amazing Spider-Man covers back in 2019, and even happier when I was able to grab one of them. Just love this big image of Spidey surrounded by his webbing with the cityscape below, the buildings angling outwards in a groovy sort of way (that's right, I said groovy). The whole thing puts me in mind of looking through a kaleidoscope. I also like that this issue was part of the "2099 In Trouble" story line. That was so much fun to read. Anyway, thanks for looking, and stay tuned for more Spidey-themed pieces coming up! Social/Sharing |

Good ol' Webhead! Amazing piece by the legendary Tony. Didn't even know he drew a Spidey cover. Congrats on securing this one!

Winnah winnah, chicken dinnah! A fabulous Spider-Man illustration, no doubt. But once again, the published version shows us just how horrible the decisions editors make can be. They had the colorist cover up all the solid blacks in the buildings Tony took the time to put in, and instead thought it would look better having all of it covered up with that flat, light blue color, leaving behind only the sketchy outlines. Let's be honest, if we weren't original art collectors, we'd have picked up this issue at the store, marveled at the lovely Spidey figure, but then also said something along the lines of "...too bad he phoned in the background." This kind of thing pisses me off so much and I'm just a fan. I can only imagine how pissed off artists get when they see their work butchered like this. All I can say is, I'm so thankful to be a comic art collector to be able to see the truth! Congrats on the win, man!

For some reason, the layout feels a little Steranko to me. I really dig it. It's a nicely balanced image, with a great perspective. And I really like how he inked everything. Nice pick up! Congrats

Overall very nicely detailed. I like that he went with some spot blacks in parts of the webbing to provide some contrast, and the POV of the landscape really makes you feel like Spidey is swingin' above it all! A worthy start to another Spidey week - always curious to know what's coming next. We shall be watching :) Congrats!

Iconic Cover! I love the perspective and composition on this one. And it's great to see one of my favorite Batman artists presenting his interpretation of Spidey! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us, Paul!
