DescriptionJaeKwang is part of SuperAni's stable of Korean artists. I asked him to do his take on Jim Lee & Scott Williams iconic cover to X-Men #1. I think it came out great.---- The second image features my edits. I think Park may have mistaken Iceman for the Silver Surfer. I've remedied that with some editing. Also added the trade dress. My lettering is closer to the published piece. Social/Sharing |

Anytime someone is willing to tackle such an epic classic, you have to be thankful. This is a really good interpretation through the artists background and lens. Being foreign and having lesser access to the source materials and deep background on the continuity, does give it a fresh and energetic take on a classic.

Awesome reinterpretation of a classic cover! I thought Iceman looked a bit silvery too but chalked that up to artistic liberty.

It wasn't just the color. He drew him riding a surfboard!

It's an ice board! Because he's cool like that... But I see what you mean.

Man, that looks huge and awesome! I always loved the Magneto section of the original cover and it's so cool to see Park's version of that on this piece. Huge congrats!

Yup, he definitely drew the Silver Surfer by mistake, which is a shame, but at the same time it's a small (thankfully) figure and represents an even smaller portion of the overall cover. In fact, I didn't even catch it until after I read your description! All in all, if you're going to get that classic Jim Lee cover recreated, you may as well get it done by someone with a completely different approach and style, which Pak certainly has. Great job!

Awesome!! I've had my eye on this artist and commissioned him as well! This is a really amazing example from an artist who I think we're all going to see a lot more of!
