DescriptionIn March 2021, Clan McDonald Comics had a charity auction to benefit Linda Blair's Worldheart Foundation, her animal right's charity. I won four of the auctions. This is one of them.I had wanted a Simonson commission for years. since I collect Spider-man, you'd think I'd ask him to tackle the webhead. In my limited search, I found that Spidey was not one of his stronger characters. I already had a Thor, so this had to be Beta Ray Bill, amirite? Additional images are colors by me, with two trade mastheads added in. Social/Sharing |

Correcta-mundo! The Simonson BRB is as much a signature character for him as Thor.

Yes, youarite! The question though, is: Did you know at the time of bidding that the commission would be at such an unbelievably high level of finish? I've seen a few great Simonson Beta Ray Bill commissions of the years, but this is one of the best I've ever seen, maybe the best. Kudos, Ron!

Ruben,
I had zero expectations of this level of quality. I thought I had overpaid for a pencilled piece. When Walt posted this my first thought was that it must be for someone else, until he mentioned Linda Blair's charity. As it turns out, my bid was the biggest bargain of all time!
Best,
Ron

Simonson has a signature Spidey IMO - but this Beta Ray Bill is just a treat to look at. Thanks for sharing!

Glad you posted this one in time for the voting. I suspect this one will do some serious damage in the 2021 CAF awards.

When it comes to this OA stuff, truly hard to top a Simonson BRB finished like this! Wow. Huge congrats, Ron!

Top shelf Simonson BRB comission. Makes the years melt away. Looks and feels very close to peak Simonson 80s Thor. Congratulations!

I circled back on this piece since I loved it so much and like what you did with the colors.

What a perfectly executed BRB by his creator! This really takes me back to Simonson's historic 80's Thor run just as much as seeing the original pages from that time

Wish I had known about this auction. Not saying I would have won, but I would have helped raise more money for the charity!
Walt did you right.

The Mighy Walt what a Thunderous rendition of an all time great character that Walt introduced. Stunning execution you could not ask for a better Beta Ray Bill.

Fantastic commission! Walt really put the effort in on it, and it's beautiful.
It'd be great to get something like this, and make a contribution in the process. I love the charity auctions...but disike the website middlemen......
