DescriptionTom Grummett's work on Superboy is fabulous, but what made the title a fun read was Tom's work along with Doug Hazlewood's inking, in combination with Karl Kesel's scripts. The book offers great superhero action, but mixed with a lot of lighthearted fun. I got such a kick out of this first issue, due to Superboy's constant ragging on Sidearm, the issue's villain, by refusing to call him by his codename and instead spending the entire battle purposely referring to him by multiple variations of the words Side and Arm, such as Sidesplit, Sidekick, Sidecar and as he refers to him on this page, Armpit! Kesel imbued the title with a sense of fun that harkened back to the original Stan Lee Spider-Man stories, and that's not a bad thing.Take a look at the additional image above to see the published page as it appeared in the comic! So bummed when I missed out on this piece. It's a really nice page showcasing Grummett and Hazlewood at their best. If you ever want to part with it, please let me know.

Spectacular splash! Haha, "Armpit." I do remember enjoying these Superboy stories because of his fun-loving, less serious cheeky attitude. As you say, the combo of Grummett/Hazlewood/Kesel made for an excellent series.
