Description"RUN-DMC" ORIGINAL COVER ART FROM VOLUME 3 OF THE HIP HOP FAMILY TREE, 2015Pencil, ink, and marker on stiff paper (17 by 11 inches), signed "Ed Piskor 2020" at bottom. Here is Ed Piskor on this piece: "Holy @&%! those hands are ridiculous! Also, I started seeing all sorts of stuff about the Illuminati’s infiltration of hip hop as a tool for manipulation and keeping people subservient, so I composed this image to resemble the Masonic compass, hoping that those same people would see it." From Fantagraphics, the publisher: "Hip Hop Family Tree Book 3: 1983-1984. The third volume of the popular webcomic tells the true story of hip-hoppers The Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, The Fat Boys, and many more. Ed Piskor’s acclaimed graphic novel series continues! Book 3 highlights Run DMC’s rise to fame and introduces unassailable acts like Whodini, The Fat Boys, Slick Rick, and Doug E Fresh. The Beastie Boys become a rap group. Rick Rubin meets Russell Simmons to form Def Jam. The famous TV pilot to the dance show Graffiti Rock and the documentaries Style Wars and Breakin’ and Enterin’ are all highlighted in this comprehensive volume spanning 1983-1984. Ed Piskor continues to deliver the goods in this comprehensive history of hip hop." Social/Sharing |

What a powerful image, Run-DMC with Kirby hands! So nice to see some Hip Hop Family Tree original art. Your pick-ups are always surprising and display excellent artistic taste!

Thank you very much, Lee! Run-DMC means a great deal to me and Ed Piskor is one of the most gifted comics creators of the past twenty years.

As a fellow Cartoonist Kafaber, this is one of Ed's most iconic work.

Congratulations on a great piece of art. This is my favorite cover from HHFT (though v2 is also great). I enjoy Ed Piskor's work immensely. Thanks for sharing this, READ MORE COMICS!

A masterpiece of a book/series (if only Ed would continue it). I had never experienced that kind of in depth journalism in comics before it. Congrats.

You got it exactly right, my friend! This book/series is not just a great comic book; it's a major work of journalism, comparable to the work done by Joe Sacco.

Thank you, Tyler! My favorite hip-hop group drawn by one of the best artists around; when I saw this piece in auction, I knew I had to get it.
