Description

This is the original artwork for a paperback version of �The King Must Die� (Mary Renault 1905-1983). It is painted on masonite. I have researched but have been unable to find the name of the artist. I remember reading this book (paperback version for which the artwork was created) back in 1976 and it is still on my shelf. I picked this up when it appeared on Heritage. With Frazetta's Dancer from Atlantis recently selling on Heritage, I was reminded of this. :-)

Its on masonite and chipped at the edges, but still cool.

If anyone has an idea about the artist, please let me know.

A very striking work that instantly informs us of the themes and motifs within the book of the ancient world, their culture, and their beliefs. Like all art from that kind of cover, the elements are arranged in a compact manner to allows the publisher to crop it the way they want.

No idea who did this cover, but regardless, it's a nice piece of art and I'd have been really chuffed to find the original cover art from a book I read as a youngster and still own the very same copy of, suddenly appear up for grabs at auction. Even better, the unknown artist and little known book means little competition and a pretty cheap win!
