DescriptionCaptain America #133 page from 1968. I started reading comics with Cap #140 and John Romita, but remember picking up this comic as a kid and enjoying the Modok character. (What's not to like about Modok?)Penciled by Gene Colan and inked nicely by Dick Ayers. Artwork was signed by Colan prior to my purchasing it. *Learned the day I posted this that Lars Teglbjaerg purchased this from Mr. Colan himself in 2005. This page spent time in Sweden inside Lars' collection before changing hands a few times and landing in the United States with me. Gotta love CAF and it's ability to connect us all and educate us about the history of this art! Social/Sharing |

Up until 2005 this page was tucked away in Gene Colan's vault. I then bought it in one of his eBay auctions but passed it on after 10 years. Congrats with landing it.

Thanks Lars! (Crazy awesome CAF gallery you have BTW.)
So glad you picked it up then to give it a chance to reach me now.
Was the Gene Colan signature on the piece when you first got it?

No. I asked Gene Colan to sign it for me in the last panel. Otherwise he normally signed his pages outside the frame.

Fun page! Colan knows how to make vehicles move on the page and I love the mug on Modok

The five panel construction of this page works so well. I agree - who doesn't love a page with MODOK. I love that AIM is so full of itself that it puts its name on the craft's wings. I also enjoyed reading your description and the piece's provenance.
