DescriptionAs beautiful and important of a Wrightson Frankenstein example as I ever could have hoped for.Years after illustrating a series of book plates for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, Wrightson decided he wanted to continue the story of Frankenstein's Monster. Bernie co-plotted the story of Frankenstein Alive, Alive along with his friend, writer Steve Niles, and illustrated the first 3+ issues of the 4 part arc before his passing. This 2 page sequence summarizes the origin of Frankenstein's Monster from his electric birth in a laboratory, to fleeing into the world, being pursued by villagers with pitchforks and torches, and his journey to loneliness and dejection. All the classic and tragic elements of the original story we have come to know and love from the novel and the movies summarized in only two pages. Bernie poured his soul into telling this story and it shows. Genius. The image of the Monster's reflection was printed several times for the cover to issue #1 as well as to promote the series. It's as if the Monster is looking directly at the viewer through his reflection. His eyes are staring right at you even though they cannot be seen by looking directly at his face. Although he seeks death, the Monster is alive! Frankenstein Alive, Alive #1 May, 2012 BIG THANKS go to Steve Niles for parting with this one from his personal collection! Steve selected this piece and has had it framed since it was new to press. I'm honored that he passed it on to me. 🙏 Social/Sharing |

Ok I'm officially jealous. An incredible 2 page sequence with haunting origin story imagery from Bernie's return to Frankenstein! And the reflection image within used for the published cover to #1 makes it even more special. It looks amazing framed too, huge congrats man this is so nice.

A true labor of love - I can't even imagine the joy of having this on the wall and being able to fall deep into the extreme complexity and sublime rendering again and again. Congrats Daryl. Amazing.

WHOLLY HANNAH!!! THIS IS EPIC! THE LOWER RIGHT WITH REFLECTION IS AWESOME AND REMINDS ME OF ONE OF THE PLATES WHERE THE MONSTER IS DRINKING. I THINK ALBERT MOY OWNS A PRELIM. HUGE SCORE!

A whole different style of art from a different time period, but absolutely reminds me of that plate as well!

Wow Wow Wow. We really do have similar taste but you're always a few steps ahead of me. Brightson has been on my list but if maybe too late for me. Big Congrats ahead of the movie release bro!!!

A return to form to the Frankenstein plate days. Wrightson knew he could not draw in that same manner again, but he evolved and built up momentum to turn in some of the most excellent art since.

Congrats on a beautiful pair of pages! Even cooler that you were able to get them directly from the book's co-creator.

Wow Daryl, that's a show stopper! Congratulations!

Thanks Tom. Everything on these pages is 100% Bernie... pencils, inks, tones... and this is exactly how the art was printed. No colorist on the interior pages, only on some of the cover images.

Jaw-dropping DPS by Bernie Wrightson from Frankernstein Alive. What an amazing spread, retelling the monster's creation and his rejection by his creator, by the villiagers and even by himself. Wrightson's art here is both touching and sad, as the monster is rejected time after time. Wrightson conveys that sadness in every panel. His use of ink washes here is unsurpassed. His talent apparent in every panel. What a fabulous work of art. Congratulations on acquiring it after so many years of waiting. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.

Glorious. The monster is seen as muscular, but also seemingly gaunt and stooped later - and finally, in despair and prostrate. An excellent sequence.
