DescriptionThis strip was originally published in the Daily Mail paper on July 8, 1963. Part of the "Jimmy Hayes" storyline which centered around Carol and her fiancŽ the photographer Joe Wilson creating a news article about the automobile tycoon. Hayes created a new sports car "The 160". In this strip we see the pair as guests in Jimmy's hotel in Paris. Hayes has eyes for Carol and is desperately trying to devise a plan to spend time alone with her. It is a very non-reciprocated attraction, as the young model has no desire for this to happen. Finding the older gentleman more foolish than anything else.David Wright set the standard for comic strip artwork during the time of his Carol Day run. The British illustrator began his career creating pinup artwork during the Second World War. He brought those talents into the beautiful women he drew later. Not the least of which was his portrayal of Carol. Always keeping her on trend with the latest fashions of the day. Each installment creating beautiful artwork with a series of detailed crosshatching and brushed lines to gracefully build the images. Wright's ability to master light and shadow while using only line work is perfectly displayed in this strip. The depth of field he creates with his lavish brushwork here is amazing. So glad to have had the opportunity to pick up this piece from my friend Roger Clark. He owned it following his purchase of art from the David Wright estate in 2007. Wonderful illustrative flat with a romantic feel. The big hair and model looks are show stopping and the last panel is gently done giving a lasting image of the beauty emblematic of this strip.

Carol's hair is so similar to the 1963 Sue Storm cut we all know so well!
