Description

Batman fights off Scarecrow's fear toxin.

Sal Amendola illustrated this highly innovative splash page for Batman #296 (1979) featuring Batman in battle after being exposed to the Scarecrow's fear toxin. The Scarecrow first appeared in 1941's World's Finest Comics #3 early in the Golden Age and appeared just one more time in the 40s. He returned in 1967 in Batman #189 and has been an on-going member of Batman's rogues gallery ever since. Scarecrow is Jonathan Crane, an ex-professor of psychology who uses a variety of experimental drugs and toxins to exploit the fears of his victims.

Sal Amendola - Again, another artist I loved 'in the day,' but have forgotten. I love this site and this page. Excellent example of Sal's artistry.

I had once missed a page by him a few years ago and always regretted that. Glad to have finally gotten this one. Definitely one of the most gifted artists of the Bronze Age!
