Description

In the graphic arts, the term chiaroscuro is an effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly or from a particular direction on something. Note that here James changed the letter "o" for the letter "u." I have yet to figure out the significance of this, but I suspect it is merely James' way of distinguishing one portrait with the use of this effect from another. Watercolor pencil on 11" x 14� toned Strathmore. Based on a photo by Janis Vakrijers.
