DescriptionCover dated April 2014. Superman and Lois Lane. It’s Jim Lee’s birthday as I’m writing this, which means there’s no better time to post this page of Jim Lee (and Scott Williams) artwork. What’s there to say about Jim Lee’s artwork that hasn’t already been said? If you were a kid reading comic books in the late 1980s, then Jim’s work on Punisher War Journal and X-Men no doubt caught your attention at the time. I myself first noticed his work when he became the artist of Alpha Flight, although I’ll admit I wasn’t too happy with that book at the time given its recent treatment of Snowbird, Northstar, Aurora, Box, Puck, Shaman and basically every other character that John Byrne had created for the title. Nevertheless, I couldn’t deny that the artwork was good, and Jim just kept getting better and better as he advanced to more popular series. His work at DC in the 21st century continues to amaze me. I picked up this page from Albert Moy not too long ago. I live maybe 40 miles from where Albert shipped the page, so you’d think that FedEx would get the page to me easily. No such luck. The highlights – FedEx said they tried to deliver the page to me, but my storefront was closed and there was no indication when my business would reopen. The problem is that the page was being sent to my house, which is clearly in a residential area, and I don’t have a storefront. When FedEx couldn’t deliver the page to my business, they shipped it to another state. Why did they do this? I don’t know. They then proceeded to lose the page. Then they created a second tracking number for the package, so I had two tracking numbers, both of which did not show the page heading towards my house. I enjoyed many shouting matches with FedEx customer service, who said this was my fault for being closed when my page was to be delivered, despite (a) my house not being a business and (b) my being home the entire time. I ultimately got a hold of someone who worked in a FedEx distribution center who found my package and arranged for it to be sent to me. Good times. So, happy birthday to Jim Lee, and FedEx sometimes sucks. Social/Sharing |

Yeah, I feel like FedEx has gone downhill quite a bit in recent years. I had another page on its way to me two weeks ago where FedEx replaced the tracking label mid-transit because they said the original label was unreadable. However, they then lost the package for a week after replacing the label. I guess I should just be happy that it turned up.

Beautiful Jim Lee and Scott Williams collaboration bringing the Superhero genre to even greater heights for the 21st century. Everything is bold and refined taking lessons from the all time legends and contemporaries who have influenced the best of comics.
I would have went with The Carrier from Authority #4 page 20. When they knock on your door, they don't mess around.

The Carrier may get the package to me, but Jenny Sparks would deliver the package with a biting quip that would destroy my sense of self-worth.

Thanks! I felt the stress of the whole FedEx situation all over again when I was writing about it in the description.

Whew, hope your Fedex troubles are behind you! Hopefully elation wasn't replaced with too much relief when you got it. Checking it out, I wouldn't think so :) Great piece, and congrats!

Thanks! I think FedEx just wanted me to appreciate the piece more by first making me think I would never get it. It's part of their new "teaching you to value your possessions" service.

I had a similar issue with DHL... But let's forget about it, much more important: This page is fantastic, thanks for sharing, Michael!

Gorgeous page, Michael, and I am so glad your story had a happy ending after many anxiety-inducing twists and turns... Reading the published version of your page, it almost feels like a 'life imitating art' thing...
Michael (checking the FedEx website for tracking info): "Wait a second. What in..."
"What? What is it...?"
"This can't be right. The signal that FedEx sends out, it's rewriting itself as I watch. As if someone knows that I don't have a storefront..."
(Seriously, though - I'm really happy it made it there safely. On the topic of FedEx delivery hijinx, I had purchased the Alex Maleev 4 Daredevil pieces in my gallery directly from him. He packaged them up EXTREMELY well and sent them via FedEx. They arrived long after he sent them, with tire track skidmarks on the package and an enormous right-angle gouge in the left edge of the package, as though an out of control vehicle had been skidding, drove onto my package, then skidded it into a railing or something, leaving a huge divot in the box, which affected all of the artwork inside; 3 torn and 1 "dented". I'm glad your art at least survived the harrowing journey intact!)
In the end, though, it's the art that matters, and I hope this beautiful piece is able to overcome the "energy" of the events leading up to its arrival in your awesome collection. Congrats on it, man!

That's horrible what FedEx did to your package! If you're talking about the Maleev pieces that I think you're talking about, I have to say they're absolutely beautiful. It looks like the actual images are still intact, which is a silver lining but still no excuse for FedEx's failure to properly care for the package. Did FedEx offer anything to you given what they did?
