DescriptionThis was my major purchase at OAX2025 and a major grail page for me.Hawkman and Hawkgirl were the first comic book characters I fell in love with - sitting in front of the TV on Saturday morning in 1977 when the Superfirends episode "Space Emergency" came on with Hawkman and Hawkgirl (and their spaceship!) as guest stars. Something about the duo grabbed me in a way that I can't explain. Around two years later I was at a local department store (Murphy's Mart in Dunbar, WV) when I saw a "DC Blue Ribbon Digest" on the shelf and HAWKMAN was on the cover. I begged my mom to buy it and she did. The issue was "Secret Origins of Superheroes" (images attached) and it was filled with reprints (though I didn't know it at the time). It included Brave & the Bold #43 with art by Joe Kubert and I was floored by the art and the origin story that was new to me. This is one of my top 3 pages in the book - I love seeing the Hawks with their masks/helmets raised to show their faces and, of course, the Hawks in flight. Commissioner Emmett being included is a great bonus and the mention of real world locations (Lake Erie, Pittsburg, Buffalo) is even more cool to me now as a 20+ year resident of upstate NY. I had bid on this at Heritage a couple years ago - bidding higher than I ever had before and still lost it and regretted not bidding higher. Recently Anthony showed it for sale on one of his art drops with Bill and I had to think about it for a couple weeks, felt like it was now or never to own a Kubert Hawkman page - and one from an issue meaningful to me. Thanks Anthony for working out a deal for me! Large art - 14 1/4" x 21 1/8" Social/Sharing |

A lot of us discovered these silver age greats through reprints too. Kubert's pencils and inks are timeless as these stories had the forward looking sci-fi element to them. Hawkman and Hawkgirl by Joe Kubert is a bridge from the golden age to the modern era.

Hawkgirl is so beautiful in that first panel. Kubert flat-out killed it.
Congrats on owning your grail.
