Next to Rom, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are my favorite heroes. I think I first some them on the Superfriends, then later saw a copy of Showcase #103 on the spinner rack when I was 8 or 9 years old (1978). I read that issue so many times I remember having to staple the cover on. Later I picked up one of the old "Blue Digest" editions (Secret Origins), which reprinted Brave & the Bold #43 where Hawkman's detailed origin is told (and he faces the Manhawks). My 8 year old self did not realize that this was a reprint from more than a decade prior OR that this Hawkman was a new version of the Golden Age one. For years, I thought that Katar Hol was the original Hawkman and that Carter Hall was the "made up" one for the JLA/JSA crossovers. One of the thing that I loved most, even as a kid, was that Hawkman and Hawkgirl were a married couple (maybe that had to do with my parents getting divorced?). Any case, I loved the wings, the sci-fi elements (soft spot for their Thanagarian cruiser), that they could talk to birds, etc. etc. I'm to this day interested only in the Silver Age Hawks (including Hawkworld). I have enjoyed the Vendetti Hawkman run, HATED the Savage Hawkman - so original art is my way to return to the Hawks that I loved growing up.
