DescriptionPicked up a couple months back, this board has Mark's inks over printed blue lines of Ario's pencils. I was lucky enough to subsequently acquire that sister board from Ario (posted separately). Recently I was able to get them both in hand and scan them here for my gallery. I am extremely happy to have a matching pair from these two Star Wars artists, and this series in particular!About the page - Newly-minted Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis, her former Master Sskeer, and the Kotabi bond-twins Terec and Ceret, are on a mission and encounter a wrecked starship. The inside of the ship is filled with gas. A Nihil attack! They split into teams of two to search for survivors and answers. Keeve has never faced the pirates, but Sskeer did at the Battle of Kur, where he lost his arm. In the top panel, involuntarily, Sskeer thinks back to the battle. Ceret tells Keeve the twins can feel Sskeer undergoing severe trauma. Keeve asks Sskeer if everything is all right, and he insists it is, telling her to concentrate on the mission and inquiring as to whether she's found the flight deck, which she has. But the smoke is thicker than ever, so she begins to push it back with the Force, puzzled at why Sskeer feels the need to remind her to do that. On the following page the smoke clears to reveal the corpse of a Hutt and its guard, so Keeve can certainly tell her Master that she has, indeed, found something. Thanks to Mark for the speedy shipping after I found his sales post. Always a pleasure to purchase direct from the artist. Social/Sharing |

While I personally haven't felt the need to buy the pencils once I've attained the finished inks, that's primarily because I don't want to double the cost of my purchase. I certainly do see the benefit of being able to study the penciler's work and then compare it with the finished page, which is fun to do.

In this instance Ario's pencils were a definite bonus for me. I similarly managed the same for a Denys Cowan-Roberto Poggi pair of boards from a Mace Windu issue. Deny's dynamic pencils definitely were nice to enjoy in their own right. So sometimes it is a plus. Like you it's certainly not something I would do in every instance, especially with the abundance of front end digital work in the modern era.
