DescriptionEarly stylized McFarlane page featuring The Reaper on a violent killing spree. Great storytelling from the first to last panel. That large splash-like center panel is where it’s at! The Reaper brutally kills Mr. M while wielding his scythe in the same manner that Batman later mimics on p. 18 and also on the cover. I love everything about this page!Todd McFarlane on pencils and inks. This is the first (and only) all McFarlane issue of Batman in any series. Back in 1987, Todd McFarlane worked on Detective Comics issues 576, 577, & 578. These issues were parts 2-4 of the "Year Two" story vs. The Reaper. Alan Davis & Paul Neary did the art for part 1 (Detective #575). Alfredo Alcala did the inks over McFarlane's pencils for issues 576 & 577. Issue 578 is the only issue with all McFarlane art. "Year Two" is the famous story vs. The Reaper where Batman decided to carry a gun and planned to kill Joe Chill to get revenge for killing his parents many years earlier. Released the same year as Frank Miller's successful "Year One" story, editors at DC decided to title this arc "Year Two" and make it an early telling of Batman's formative years. Batman: Year Two - Chapter Four: "...So Shall Ye Reap..." -September 1987 story: Mike W. Barr pencils: Todd McFarlane inks: Todd McFarlane Social/Sharing |

As a Bats guy, you aren't going to get a whole lot of opportunities to own a McFarlane page. This checks a lot of boxes! Congrats!

Excited to have traded this page to you Daryl and I can tell from your attention to detail in the description that it has found the perfect next 'OA Caretaker'. Enjoy all that goodness straight from the mind/hand of the Toddfather!

I see at least 5 violations of the Comics Code Authority. Good find!

OUCH! I'm sure dude was plenty scared before this :) I didn't read much DC at all at the time but I remember my brother giving me a couple Batman issues that McFarlane worked on. Was very different, very stylized. And I dug it. Great example, man! Congrats!

Wow, not sure how I missed this page too. Another great all McFarlane page giving us some brutal tones we'd see in his Spawn work.
