DescriptionAnother acquisition from the Dueling Dealers! A great battle page between Thor and Red Hulk from the Loeb/McGuinness series. To my understanding, Dexter Vines had inked all the issues except for #5, which was done by Mark Farmer.Social/Sharing |

Sweet claim! 90 seconds is probably not enough to showcase something this good and describe it properly. Thor in a battle against the Hulk in any situation is a rarity!

Absolutely fantastic 3 panel page. It's difficult to get more exciting pages than those featuring a Battle Royale between 2 of comicdom's heaviest hitters like Thor and Hulk. Nice pickup, Tony. I look forward to your CAF Live! chat with Bill!

I agree, Rubén - any page with these two is always going to catch my eye, and I really liked this updated look of Thor. Thanks for tuning in tomorrow; I haven't got the insider experiences you and so many other veterans have but hopefully I won't put anyone to sleep... :)

Nah, don't sweat it, Tony, just be who you are. Honestly, the best reason for the existence ofthese chats in my opinion is simply that it allows us to get to know some of the collectors behind the names we see passing by us here on CAF all the time. Just relax and treat it like you're having a chat with an old friend. Easy peasy!

This is the series Ed was born to illustrate. Big, bold, bombastic are Ed's calling cards and we as fans were the beneficiary of Marvel making the right decision to have Ed as the artist on Jeff Loeb's storytelling. Vines was indeed the initial and primary inker and did a great job, along with Mark Farmer bringing Ed's pencils to life. Mark handled a good bit of the inking chores in the series, especially later issues. Brilliant example, major congratulations Tony!

An absolutely -spectacular- example of the "bigger! BIGGER! BETTER!!!" approach of this run, which Ed's bold, bodacious, and bombastic style fit to a (capital!) "T". I love Thor's "business as usual" expressions here (especially in the second panel); he doesn't even betray any emotion until panel 3's money shot (what am I saying? ALL of these are money shots!). Great inking touches here as well (the impact lines and lighting source in panel 1, Mjolnir's "whooshing" in panel 2, just... ALL of panel 3... :) ) A beautiful black and white balance to the whole page, too, with the heavy blacks on the left of panel 1, on the right in panel 2, and spread throughout panel 3. Thor's throwing all he has at Red Hulk here... surely it will be enough to rake him down for the count, right...? Fantastic!! Congrats, Tony!

Thanks, Jason. Really love the action on this page - it's like three mini splashes!

Phenomenal battle page between Thor and the Hulk by Ed McGuinness and Mark Farmer! Stunning action images on this page! Love that first panel with Thor smashing Hulk in the chest with his mystical hammer, Mjolnir! Notice the dark shadows behind Hulk while the hammer looses lightning into him. The second panel is as cool as the first, with Thor's hammer swinging around and around before crashing into Hulk's head. But apparently even that wasn't enough, because we have the third panel where Thor is holding his hammer high and behind him while he prepares a third and (He hopes) final blow! Great page, great pick-up!
