DescriptionContinuing 2021 with my first posts by artists, and here we have Mr. Steve Dillon, RIP.When I think “Dillon” I think “Punisher, and vice versa, so I’m glad to have checked this off the list! I haven’t read every Punisher story out there but the Zeck and Dillon runs are the 2 that stand out for me when I think of the character. And I’m continuing my recent streak of “Jim” posts as the inks here are done by inker extraordinaire (especially during this time!) Jimmy Palmiotti! This is a page from the third issue of the Ennis/Dillon run titled “Welcome Back, Frank”, which breathed new life (and death, I guess, considering all the punishment Frank doles out in the series!) into the character. I remember thinking it was wacky, fun, crazy, violent…it all worked. I continue to reread and flip through the trade to this day. They also used a lot from this run in the Thomas Jane Punisher flick. Here, Daredevil’s just beat Frank down, but Frank moves to using his ace in the hole. What’s DD’s weakness?! Interestingly enough I have a page similar to this, also inked by Palmiotti, but over Quesada - https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1447313. Punisher #3 pg 16 and DD #3 pg 16 - weird :) Anyway! That super hearing…a blessing of a super power, sure, but sometimes a curse. Then a disoriented Matt gets cold clocked by Frank. Matt wakes up in chains then him and Frank proceed to have a chat about killing/not killing bad guys. Great sequence and they actually used it in the second season of the Netflix DD show. Loved how Bernthal/Castle called Cox/DD “Red” in that scene :) Interestingly enough this page was the first ever Dillon Punisher post on CAF back in 2006, and it’s still there…15 years later posted again by yours truly :) Thanks, Mike Burkey, and our CAF main man Bill Cox for the assist! Fantastic page! Dillon's clean yet dynamic linework are impressive, the DD panel in particular. Congrats Kahlil!

Great page! I like that the Punisher shows compassion and empathy towards DD (and the pain he knows DD is experiencing) by clocking him as quickly as possible. Then that last panel is cool, because the 'sound circles' experienced by DD seem to turn into balls of light as they begin to fade out. Not sure if that's the artistic intention, but I like it. Dillon & Palmiotti are a great team. Congrats!

Compassion and empathy to the extent that the Punisher can be compassionate and empathetic, right?! :) I think there might have been an element of efficiency too there, and let's face it, he's still knocking DD out! I don't doubt there may been some pent up aggression there he felt some satisfaction letting out :) And you're right about how DD blacking out is artistically exhibited - great stuff by Dillon. Thanks, Paul, and all, for the comments!

"He's not the enemy, but I'm sick of his self righteous garbage, and he deserves a wake up call--" Tricky Punisher... just like we like him! And I loved that scene in the series, too. Bernthal brought it, just like this page. Dillon really did a fantastic job on Punisher. I love how he blacked out the small last panel. Great stuff. Congrats!

Yes! Whatever's needed to get the job done. Including being "tricky" - that's Frank :) And I agree regarding Bernthal, and Cox, as well. They both brought it. And the book and the show are both connected of course in terms of character and story, but still different enough where I appreciate both as such. Thanks, J!

Nice! A really strong page by the dearly departed Steve Dillon. A great interraction, very reminiscent of my personal favourite appearances back before Punisher ever got his mini-series and he was just a really cool, mysterious vigilante making one or two issue appearances in ASM, Daredevil, Captain America, etc. and doing the whole "I'm sick of his holier than thou attitude." schtick!

Yes - great point! Definitely how I originally remember the Punisher. We know he blew up in the '90s and was everywhere but prior he'd show up in other heroes' books to tell them how they be half-steppin' :) Thanks, Ruben!

Awesome - Dillon to me is always going to mean Preacher, IMO one of the all-time best series that has been. Congrats on owing a page from another great Dillon/Ennis run in their Punisher take, especially one with Daredevil to boot!

As everyone else has said - a fantastic Dillon page, featuring not only the Punisher but my favorite of his "opponents"; the meet-ups these two have are always SO much fun. Dillon's clean, crisp strorytelling is always a joy to behold, and to see the (very nearly) full page shot of Daredevil here is worth the price of admission even BEFORE all the rest of the goodness is factored in... Awesome page, man! Congrats!

Thanks, David, and I agree! And I'd venture to say that the Askani'Son has had a few of these run ins himself :)

Very cool coincidence of Palmiotti-inked pages 16 from issue 3! Even stranger that they both feature Daredevil getting his ears blared out by loud sounds. I vaguely remember this sequence from the Daredevil series, so it might be worth a rewatch with the new series/season coming up. Congrats on the fun bit of kismet!

Dude, it was so bizarre as it was totally coincidental! I actually showed Jimmy Palmiotti the 2 pages OAX in January and he was tripping out, too. We took a pic with them.
I was thinking about a DD rewatch myself - we'll see. Time is short lol. Thanks for the add!
