DescriptionStarted FF villain posts a couple months back with Doom and finishing up here with him as well, with another “cat” thrown in ;)Fave goodie vs fave baddie! Well, Spider-Man 1A and Black Panther 1B but don’t know that anyone tops Victor Von Doom for me on the villain front. Original love started as a kid reading Secret Wars and it’s carried on to this day. And y’all know about me and BP. But I always dug the combo, too. They’re adversaries, but also share a bond as monarchs. Throw in Namor (see my last 2 posts!) and it’s been cool to see that connection play out. Their back-and-forth is tinged with that royal aspect that others just don’t get. But don’t get me wrong – they got the connection but have all have been at each other’s throats at different points over the years. Speaking of which. Let’s get to the OA! Have always loved this cover from way back in 2006 (weird to think it’s already been 17 years since this book came out) and am stoked to now own the OA. Or OAs. This buy was actually a 4 piece lot. First, the main 11x17 image, inked over blue lines. Second, the 9x12 original pencil roughs. Third, a Doom hand correction. And fourth, the 2 layouts Hairsine was considering. I think you can tell which layout he liked more, lol, and Marvel agreed. I like how zoomed in the image is - essentially just bust shots. More up close and personal. Like these 2 are, both getting shots in. And I especially dig Doom’s mean mug. Been on the lookout for a nice full faceoff image between these 2 and am glad to have hit with this cover lot. Hope y’all like! Social/Sharing |

Wow! These two are getting down with championship sauce everywhere. Maybe more! You're right....the Panther and Doom have much in common as beacons of communities and more...never occurred to me. It's practically a DBZ godclash! Excellent piece!

Congrats. What a cool cover. I especially like the scratchy lines around Dooms face and cape. Almost Wrighton-esque.

Hand fetish alert! Yes, jazz hands are fun. But nothing beats comic hands. Not one, not two, but THREE great comic hands on this piece. My hand fetish is tingling off the hook! LOL! Super dramatic image and great face off cover with Doom and Panther.. And I'm glad you included the published cover because for once they actually didn't screw it up with atrocious coloring.

"Doom, you dirty rat! You broke my necklace! You're gonna have to PAY for that, I hope you know!" (I think those are pieces of T'Challa's necklace -- otherwise, my joke pretty much sux, lol). I'm sure glad Trevor went with the layout that he did, cuz it totally rocks! And yeah that is some GREAT hand artistry. Awesome cover in every way, K, congrats!!

Ha ha, it's actually reversed, T'Challa broke Vic's chain! Y'know, that chain that connects the 2 gold disc clasps? So, your joke may not have worked out EXACTLY as intended, but it still works! And I agree regarding the hands - been a few comments on those so far. Thanks, man, and all, for the comments!

Secret Wars was my first exposure to Doom as well! Specifically, I read Secret Wars #11 in a barber shop, and he was super-intimidating in that issue, especially since he had the power of the Beyonder.
Anyway, great cover from Trevor! Although I think I like the first hand drawing more, but I can understand why he changed it.

Ahh, a fellow SW Doomster! Yeah, issue 11 he was omnipotent Doom, and it was cool seeing his interactions with everyone being uber powered up. Before Beyonder-possessed Klaw's shenanigans cause him some...problems in the next issue :) Memorable day for a haircut! I'm also lucky enough to have a page from SW 11 as well!
I like the published open hand more, maybe because it's meant to highlight the energy more? But honestly, if seeing the other initially, it wouldn't have come close to crossing my mind to change it, lol. Thanks for the comments, Travis!

Sparring with an iron choke hold and a jugular claw slash :) But I get it, dude! I know Doom's your GUY :) Glad you dig it - these 2 facing off just flat out works, narratively and visually! Thanks for the add!

Doom just makes any cover extra cool. Very nice pick up by an artist whose work is I. Low supply!

Really dig this one.,, also love the fact you have all the "pieces" of the art. The way comic art is now made to often the parts that equal the sum don't stay together: very well done my friend!

Whoa
A Black Panther fight, felt like the best
I've gotta find the crazy threats
I need you, to choose instead
And burn my blue herb, blunt end
Pather cover, gimme the Doom
I got the great taste of lovin' Doom
Art skill's Trevor cures my ill
I got the great case of lovin' shrooms
A bad guy face don't make no pretty art
I learned Wakandan from the start
You think Doom's cute, a Marvel bit shy
Martha, I ain't that DC guy
Doctor cover, gimme the Doom
I got a bad case of fightin' Doom
No skill's, Victor gets his fill
I got a bad case of lovin' Doom

Wow, I never read this but for me this cover is a modern day classic! I was blown away by it when it was first solicited and as you mention, I cannot believe this goes al lthe way back to 2006! I was honestly thinking something more like 2012 or 2013. Regardless, I love it and I especially appreciate the fact that all the pieces involved in the production of the finished cover are still together and included. The only surprising thing to me about this cover is that it wasn't already in your collection for many years already!

Wow man!!! Another beauty to your collection!!! I love Dr. Doom face! It is full of fierceness and wickedness ... as it has to be!!! I like the way the cover is inked focusing on the headshot. Also pencils are very powerful. Amazing pick-up and a very good example of the whole creative process!!!

A perfectly balanced combat cover. How often do you see covers with one character having the upper hand on the other? Maybe a villain standing over a fallen hero. Not here! You have an evenly matched slugfest with a dash of reconstructive punched jaw therapy mixed in with return the favor attempted strangulation!!! Two mighty Marvel Monarchs mash it out on a cover to be admired.

Yup, exactly! Balanced in terms of composition and them both getting licks in, but still frenetic in the nature of the scene...namely 2 monarchs, up close and personal, taking shots at the other's neck! Glad you dig, Mike!

You know I love this piece, Kahlil! These guys go at it emporer-style. And you can almost hear the haughty barbs flying! Not only is this a sweet cover, but to get all the process, too, is so rare and cool. Man, I hope Marvel gives us this moment! 🤞🏼

WHOOO!! You didn't just -hit- with this one, K; you knocked the cover off the ball (as it sailed out of the park)! One of my very favorite cover images from one of my very favorite comic runs: it was only fitting that it should come to rest here! I love the fact that you got all four pieces involved in the cover so you could trace the evolution of the image. This was absolutely the better of the two cover images to go with, and although it's not easy to pull off a convincing "underdog" look for T'Challa, Trevor's layout (with Doom positively LOOMING over the Panther as T'Challa's claws careen off his armor) more than does the trick. An epic piece of dramatic storytelling, and I couldn't buy the book quickly enough. i remember this issue as one of the first truly GREAT Civil War tie-ins (preceded by Black Panther #18)! A thrilling add to your gallery (already overflowing with thrilling, incredible pieces), K! Sincere and heartfelt congrats!

Ha ha, I just pictured Ken Griffey Jr BELTING one over the fence and dropping the bat in one fell swoop :) Mic drop with a bat, and Hairsine a mic drop with his pen! Glad you like, and glad it hit a nostalgic chord, too! Yup, BP and Storm got married the issue prior, and Steve and Tony were having some...disagreements :) Thanks for the add, Jason!

Shut the front door! I so so so love me some Hairsine art and this just captures that royal battle paradigm that is present in so many of the T'Challa / VVD altercations.
Absolutely love it, KG!
