DescriptionHappy Halloween! Thought this was an apt add considering. Also following up my Western GR commission post so I’m keepin’ it rollin’, or RIDIN’ rather, with the OG – Johnny Blaze! From the 2001 Marvel Knights GR miniseries Devin Grayson and Trent Kaniuga did, with Danny Miki on inks. The story was alright, but I dug the more exaggerated cartoony style that Kaniuga brought to the character, and pair that with Miki ink detail? Good stuff. Here GR, caught unawares, is blasted on bike by Gunmetal Grey (GG). GG moves to point blank range and on the next page blasts GR’s skull to bits, but as they say, hard to keep a Spirit of Vengeance down! For me was all about that closeup last panel – sweet shot of Kaniuga’s GR (is that a grin on a skull?!) and that Miki detail I mentioned. Thanks, DM, for letting me pick it up! Hope y’all have a devilishly good night! Social/Sharing |

Sometimes I compare Kaniuga to Tradd More and people get offended.. but if you were there when a Kaniuga burst on the scene.. and the unique style you get what I mean!

Not sure it was like THAT, but close. I dug how the Marvel Knights imprint would let artists show out in their own unique ways on characters that weren't particuarly doing well at the time, and this definitely fit that bill. As others are staying, would love to have seen more from Trent, but we still got this stuff to look at!
Thanks, man, and all, for the adds!

I don't know why Kaniuga didn't do more comics. I love his style, and this is a really nice pick up!!!

It was, thanks! My daughter was Red (see Disney's Descendants) and my wife was Red's mother, the Queen of Hearts. My son and I both had karate gi's on, him more Daniel mine Cobra Kai. But we both had Marshmello (DJ) heads on with headbands, lol. It worked!
Glad you dig the piece!

Oooh yeah, that last panel, man ... that is fantastic. Amazing detail all around, and a perfect piece for this ghoulish All Hallows Eve. Congrats, K, and Happy Halloween!

Traffic lines while we are racing home
Melted lights cover the Grayson road
My skull is flamed it, and I've chained it
A comic art to see, oh
I can't wait to see your page
Crash when we're switchin' lanes
My ghost's Gunmetal Grey
But if I miss the brake
We're ridin' in the flames
It's Kaniuga pencil
Ooh, yeah
"The world can't steal", they stay in portfolio (Oh, no)
So grab the deal, want you to be with turtle
We're dodgin' gunfights and you say, "Hold tight"
An inker's part Danny, oh (Hey)

The thing I remember the most about Trent's Ghost Rider were the awesome proportions on the figure. Sweet get!

Right! Exaggerated proportions that just flat out work. Had a cartooniness mixed with grittiness what was perfect for GR. And good point as far as giving JB the more DK look in this book...hadn't thought about that at all. Thanks, fellow fan of the GRs!

Come to think of it, I believe this series was also an unspoken, key turning point where artists just quietly agreed to start making Johnny Blaze GR look like Danny Ketch GR with the whole modern leather getup and spikes.

Oh man! I remember reading this and just loving the cartoony art that Kaniuga was throwing down on the page. In black and white it has the right mixture of vengeance and fun. Righteous acquisition! Congratulations!

I missed this title when it came out but by looks of this page and especially that last panel, I wish I hadn't! What a Halloween treat!

Love this Ghost Rider page by Trent Kaniuga and Danny Miki! I think Trent really created a unique look for Ghost Rider with his exaggerated flames. That opening panel with GR blasting down the road leaving a blazing trail of fiery flames is so cool! Love the little guy being blown off his feet! It's amusing when Gunmetal Grey gets off his bike and strides up to Ghost Rider with his shotgun, then aims the barrel straight at GR's skull. You don't have to turn the page to know it's not going to turn out well for Gunmetal Grey. Wonderful art by Trent and fabulous inks by Danny Miki! Terrific pick-up, congrats!
