DescriptionCover dated April 1975.On this page, Easy Reader and Valerie face off against the villainous book-stealing scumbag known as the Vanisher. For those who don’t know, Easy Reader is the name that Morgan Freeman went by back in the 1970s when he worked for the Electric Company. However, it’s tough helping kids read when a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants decides to rob the library. The Vanisher was so proud of his crime, he even wrote his name on his cape so there would be no mistaking who committed this cruel act. Not even Magneto has the guts to write his name on his cape. Mike Esposito and Tony Mortellaro are both credited as inkers on this issue. Not sure who may have worked on this page. I should also point out that this page looks crooked because it appears to have been cut that way. I’m putting this page in my X-Men gallery because the Vanisher’s acts here no doubt led directly to the government accelerating the production of Sentinels. Anyone unfamiliar with Easy Reader should watch this. It will make your life better. Social/Sharing |

Hah ha! I love how he embroidered his name into the back of his cape! You gotta let 'em know "Who WAS that masked man, anyhow?" before they even ask it, as you walk away from your crime!

What do we know of The Vanisher before his life of crime? Maybe he was a pro wrestler? I smell a four issue mini-series!

Haha, I love how the elephant book went "poof!" along with the Vanisher and the rest of his ill-gotten library books. And he's so delightfully haughty in that first panel. Really fun page.

Such a great blast from the past. I still can't believe Morgan Freeman played Easy Reader even though I've known thissince the late '80s after Freeman received an Oscar nomination for his work in Street Smart, playing opposite a post-Superman Christopher Reeve.

Yeah, seeing the old videos on YouTube of Freeman as Easy Reader are so much fun to see, particularly when he's singing.

I like that the Vanisher has his name on his cape and also feels the need to declare his name as well, ha. Fun piece from the 70's.

Dear Fellas,
I can't believe how fast things move on the outside. I saw a CAF meme once when I was a kid, but now they're everywhere. The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry. The parole board got me into this halfway house called "The Romitaman-sion" and a job diving into bins for Mortimers, Espositos, and Mortellaros at the Electirc Company. It's hard work and I try to keep up, but my nose hurts most of the time. I think the store manager likes Hulk Cologne too much.
Sometimes after work, I go to the park and feed cake to the birds. I keep thinking Billigan might just show up and say hello, but he never does. I hope wherever he is, he's doin' okay and makin' new little buddies.
I have trouble memein' at night. I watch bad streams like I'm deal making. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me a while to remember the Mhans that I claimed. Maybe I should get me a Christian Bale Batman mask and rob the library so they'd send me home. I could apply for the library card with the librarian while I was at it, sort of like a bonus. I guess I'm too old for that sort of nonsense any more.
I don't like it here. I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided to Vanish. I doubt they'll kick up any fuss. Not for an old crook like me. P.S: Get busy reading or get busy Vanishing.

Once upon a time, about 15 years ago, in another life, I owned Page 3, where she first asks him for his library card. While yours is no doubt the far superior page, I still can't shake the feeling that selling that page is one of the great mistakes of my life. Sometimes I look for that page in one of my portfolios, only to realize it... well... you know.
