DescriptionSummer 1986.I bought just about every Marvel annual that came out during the Summer of ‘86. As a young kid less than two years into collecting comics at that point, I hadn’t yet read enough books to realize that the exceptional quality of those annuals wasn’t something I could count on every year. We had Claremont and Alan Davis on New Mutants, Claremont and Art Adams on X-Men, Nocenti, Adams and Mignola on Web of Spider-Man, Gruenwald and Zeck on Captain America, Layton on the first X-Factor annual, and Ditko and Janson doing the art chores on Avengers. However, my favorite was West Coast Avengers Annual #1. The issue opened with both Avengers teams on the run following the events of Avengers Annual #15, with the first dozen or so pages offering a rundown of every Avenger and near-Avenger as of ‘86. It was a great trip through Avengers history for a kid who ate up every bit of Marvel trivia that I could find. The story by Englehart, Bright and Isherwood had all of the action and drama that one could hope for from a superhero comic book, but more importantly for me at the time, it had fifteen Avengers taking on Quicksilver and the Zodiac! Seventeen if you count the pivotal roles played by the Vision and Hank Pym! And the day wasn’t won by violence - it was won by a synthezoid appealing to Quicksilver’s humanity. And getting the page where that plays out? Something of a dream come true for me. Special thanks to Jonathan, wherever you are, for letting this page go. Social/Sharing |

A nice page, with nice images and I really dig the Isherwood finishes over Bright's pencils. Good times, for sure!

At first, I thought Vision was into big bling (vishawn meme), but then when he used the ruby to project the twins, it made sense to snap Pietro back to his senses when he was revealed as the traitor in this annual crossover. Every panel is a winner with Mark Bright giving us flight action, a partial team shot, and the Billy and Tommy image.

WCA was so much fun and I have all these annuals in a box somewhere as well. Great page with the team and some great Vision images as well. Nice snag - congrats and thanks for sharing!

Great page! Mark and Geof make an excellent team. I had forgotten how much I loved the art on this Annual. Now I'm going to have a add it to my want list.
