Description

I was not planning on getting any more art from Mike McKone; I already have a number of pieces from him. But then I saw this swinging Spidey and I knew I had to make it mine. I love McKone's take on Spider-Man. Red and black forever.

Would ask which your favorite McKone was, but seeing as you just adopted this as your new avatar, I think that answers my question.  Can't blame you for pulling the trigger on this one, regardless of how many McKone examples you already have.  I don't really need to be reminded of why Spidey is my favorite comic character, seeing something like this only reinforces it.  Congrats buddy!

Thanks!  Spider-Man might just be the greatest character in all of comics.

Great looking Spidey.  McKone does a great job drawing him.

Thank you.  I wish McKone would do a painted Spider-Man graphic novel.  At the very least, it would look great.

A wise man once said, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth by McKone's colors."

I think I remember that quotation from Bartlett's...

(Lol Marcus!) Oh, man, that color palette! Going dark with it, like he's catching the last ambient light before sundown, just looks so cool. And I love the pose and atmosphere in the background. Yeah, this would be hard to pass up, dude. Understood. Swinging high!

Thanks for the comment, my friend.  I like your idea of Spidey catching the last ambient light before sundown, doing one more patrol of the Big Apple before he heads home to Mary Jane...

What a fantastic McKone, A K!  I'm in complete agreement with you about his brilliant use of red and black as the Spidey "standards", but the colors of the -sky- here are incredibly beautiful.  Terrific pose and use of the horizontal space, too; a really fun 11x17 example, and one of the highlights of a drop full of magnificent McKone masterworks!  Congrats, A K!

Thanks, Jason!  I already have a Spider-Man piece by McKone, but the dynamic pose and Mike's brilliant use of horizontal space (which you note) really drew me to this painting.

No matter how many incarnations of the Spidey suit are made, nothing beats the original.  McKone works his magic with Spidey in his element.

I agree, Dustin!  The original Ditko costume reigns supreme.  Thank you for the comment, my friend.

Classic Spidey pose and cool how McKone uses straight black for the usually blue part of the costume.  Love the colors in the background, too, and how it's less lit as you move left to right.  Congrats!

Thank you, Kahlil!  And thank you for the astute comment as well; I must confess I didn't consciously notice the change in background colors from left to right until you mentioned it.
