DescriptionCover dated December 1998. Featuring the Golden Age Green Lantern, Alan Scott.I’m finally getting around to framing a few pieces to hang in my home office, and since this is a favorite of mine, it’s going up on the wall. So, I thought I should scan and post it before it’s behind glass. I love anthology books, so I bought every 80-page giant that DC put out in the late 90s even if I wasn’t collecting the related main book at the time. This page comes from one such giant, and it was one of the few tastes of DC’s Golden Age characters that we got during this period outside of “Starman.” Mayhew’s art for this story was reminiscent of Paul Smith’s “Golden Age” series of a few years earlier, maybe because James Robinson wrote both of them. At any rate, it’s possibly my all-time favorite image of Alan Scott. Social/Sharing |

Wow, this is a really early career Mayhew piece! Is the ink pigmentation changing color, or is that brownish/reddish appearance just due to light reflection? So fun to see more JSA art being posted!

That's the actual color of the piece, and it's how it looked when I first got it five years ago. Looking at it close up, it doesn't look like India ink was used for the inking. I unsuccessfully tried to get another page from this story a few years back, and it had the same coloration.
