DescriptionWolverine is one of those heroes that really bring out the best in artists. Here’s a great example--the cover to Wolverine #110 by Adam Kubert and Tim Townsend. I love the energy Adam put into this cover--Wolverine bursts off the page with a ferocity that makes you want to duck. And contrasting with Wolvie’s savagery is the tranquillity of Alpha Flight's Shaman. While Shaman quietly weaves a magic spell to trap a demonic bear ... Wolverine distracts it by attacking in full berserker rage! Tim Townsend's masterful inks bring the scene to life, the thicks and thins of his line matching Wolvie's frenetic energy. IMHO, it's a top-drawer cover from a top-notch team!Social/Sharing |

Late 90s gold, with an X-Men + Alpha Flight crossover, to boot. Wolvie is in his element here, while Shaman adds mystical atmosphere...

Spectacular cover! I always love it when Logan teams up with a member of Alpha Flight, so Shaman's presence shifts this from an A+ cover to an A+++ cover.

We're all so used to pencillers establishing their artistic identities, but inkers certainly can stamp their brand on pieces as well. Just one look at this and you can see the stark differences between what Tim brings to the table over what Farmer did during his run. Yes, it's still Kubert's Wolverine. But it's so interesting to see what Tim and Mark did to make it their own. Great cover buddy! Congrats!

The wonderful, natural figure work, the feathering with either short/thick or long/thin parallel lines to create shadow, the savage fury waiting to be unleashed from within the calm. All fabulous. But enough about Shaman! The Wolverine figure is pretty good too! 😉

Somehow it pops more in the OA than it does in the crazy printed colors. Just stunning detail. Congrats!

As a Canuck I approve this cover! Love the expression on Wolvie's face and the way he is practically popping off the page. Congrats!!

A great combination of mysticism and hard edged adamantium! They are represented as opposites on the cover, but it works to show there is a middle ground in between as it also means delving deeper into Wolverine's spiritual nature.

Townsend really delivers here, I like his inking a lot. It's a treat to see this art as nature intended, without the added clutter from the published version. The craft and discipline really shines through.

Kubert's pencils are always magic, but wow, Townsend's inking on this Wolverine cover is truly sublime. A piece that is SO much more visually pleasing in black and white than in the colored version. An outstanding work of art that fits perfectly in your stunning collection!

Bill loves OA more than driving his Lamborghini.
Don't worry about his money, he knows how to spend it:
He's picking up Kubert/Townsend while you were in line getting con sketches.
Jealous!
Cuz my posts don't get nearly as many views and likes.

Always a treat whenever you post a new addition! This is an eye catching cover for sure. My appreciation for Townsend's inks continue to grow. Seeing how he handles the different artists he has worked with is impressive. Kubert and Townsend are a great fit! Huge congrats!

GRRRAAAHHHHH! Wolvie berserker rages deserve some sound effects. Man, this cover is gorgeous. The pencils and inks are immaculate, and I love all that great detail. Townsend was certainly feeling his oats here, with that perfect light sourcing on Shaman, and even throwing is some cross-hatching. You got a winner. Big congrats!

I have always loved this cover. There is an appealing cartooniness to Adam's work that distinguishes it from the work of his father and brother. Logan looks fierce without looking too realistic, which is a trap too many artists fall into. And Dr. Michael Twoyoungmen is beautifully rendered as well. Congratulations!

Cool that you've got that juxtaposition of the sitting, calm Shaman vs the claws out pouncing Wolvie! Great cover, Bill - definitely gettin' harder to come by. I think what I like most are those CLEAN inks, whew. Townsend's pretty good, right? :) Congrats!

Striking cover, with brilliant contrast between the static pose of Shaman and a classic unleashed Wolvie! The inks also are great!

Just splendid. Shaman truly steals the show despite a great claws out Wolvie. And the inks are exquisite (as always).

Wow, Bill! Another rollicking addition to a collection already full of them! I love how Townsend's lines complement Adam's - the precision in the interior of the circle vs the looseness (dare I say chaos) of the foliage. Wonderful piece of stand-alone art and a cover to remember!
