DescriptionNot gonna lie…I’m ECSTATIC about this piece. Travis’s style has morphed quite a bit from his 90’s WildCATS heyday to his recent cover and interior work. While both are equally beautiful, guys my age couldn’t get enough of the meticulous illustrative stylings of 90’s Charest. This was also true of a whole generation of artists he inspired. When the opportunity to get a commission from him came along, I was hopeful that the design of Cable may spark a bit of retro-Travis. I’m thrilled that while not fully WildCATS Charest, this piece does evoke a bit of a throwback feel. Checking a HUGE item off my bucket list here (literally AND figuratively - this thing is 13" x 19") The additional pic is by a digital artist by the name of Matthew Nickerson who took it on himself to digitally color the image that Travis shared on his social media. Thanks, Matthew! Social/Sharing |

First ;-)
But Travis absolutely killed this. That gun is straight out of Quake or Duke Nukem!

I used to say that Jim Lee could make any character cool (see his work on savage dragon), but I think I got to add Charest to that list. Just a beautiful image. Charest really makes Cable his own. Congrats!

Dude, this is abolutely nuts! One of the nicest Charest pieces I've seen in years. I can't remember Cable ever being described as pretty, but this is SO pretty! The linework, the detail, the incredible light & shadow. You just hit the commission lottery. Congrats big time!

Thanks, man! That giant gun demands a lot of attention but for me, the face really makes this image. For all the reasons you just mentioned!

Man, that's gorgeous, E. Love the lighting and shading, and that gun...blows me away :) And must look that much better in person, being 13x19! I'm sure you've been poring over LOTS. Congrats, man!

As I watch along, Eranga
What went wrong with our pouch
A pouch that’s Cable strong
Travis you commission, I think of
Liefeld you've got Eranga
While your art was done
You’re bringin' all the rain
Case shells fallin' and I feel the pain
Wishin' you got what you needed
X-Force and Askani
Eranga
No wo-wo-wo wonder
Why... why-why-why-why-why
You got Charest
And Eranga this piece will stay
This Cable blows away
A gun-gun-gun-gun fun Charest

Big gun and lots of pouches equal a proper Cable, and this one answers that call pretty well. Congrats on another great Cable for your collection.

Wow man, that looks so solid and three dimensional! The mark of a great artist is when they draw a single character commission like this with zero background, yet still give the figure a solidity and weight that grounds them to the floor which hasn't even been drawn. Fabulous!

Yup! That's pretty bad-ass for all the reasons mentioned. Great job choosing the artist and character and just letting the magic happen.

Another home run comission by Travis Charest! Typical 90's pinup with the character that literally represents the comics in the 90's by one of the best artists who has started to flourish in the 90's! Especially the big gun with the unique flavor of Charest!

It looks like he's spotted a fool that needs a talking to. As Cable does. I love Charest, too, and this is a killer piece. Just evocative enough of his old work, with some really cool new stylings. That focal point on the face was nicely done. So many cool tricks here. Explosive!

Big congrats Eranga! The character design is outstanding, along with the GIANT gun. Glad to see you check Charest off the list!

Cable looking as cool as ever! Great pose and I can feel the micro-movement in this piece from the tattered cape to the tensing muscles from the weight of that monstrous gun. I mentioned it before but I love how he did the boots and the solid ink really balances the piece overall.
