DescriptionSo, once upon a time Ben had this posted online, and since girls with glasses are a theme of mine I bought it. He just had it labeled “Steampunk Girl” and I didn’t think anything of it.A few months later I see a listing for Steampunk Palin online, with this art as the cover. Even with the promise of a Professor Steamhead cameo I didn’t order the book. I was a bit relieved when I saw the published edition and found the art hadn’t been used for the cover. Dula Luck being what it is, some time later a friend gave me a pile of Previews, and in one was the ad for Victorian Secret: Girls of Steampunk Summer 2014. As you can see in the attached image, it’s clearly based on the piece I own, but also very different. Having a large collection of Ben Dunn art in my collection, I’d say there are two possibilities: 1. He had the art still as a digital file, and revised it to what you see in the color version. 2. Ben redrew the entire piece using the one I own as a basis. It seems the color art below, whether a modified version of mine or a separate piece, didn’t make the cover of the book. I don’t have a copy, so I can’t comment if it was published or not, so I’m assuming it wasn’t used. If anyone can shed some light it’d be appreciated. 5/24/2024 Update: I’ve just learned that in January an (apparently) PDF-only release entitled “Steampunk Palin: The Director’s Cut was released, and this piece was used as the cover art. I’ve added a pic of the cover below. Social/Sharing |

I like your version better than the modified published(?) one. A lot of work went into all those flowing lines and it really delivers. Congrats.

I just found out it was used as the cover for a PDF-only "Director's Cut" from Alphawave, released in January. I guess I need to see if a hardcopy will ever be released.

Ben never gets enough credit in the hobby. His works are fantastic, fun, and light.
