Description

It's always magical when we can capture a page that is from the formative stages of our nostalgic wheelhouse, doubly so when it's from the very roots! This is just such a page, for me, from my very first comic book Classic X-Men #30.

I'll never be able to afford a page from Uncanny X-Men #124, which is reprinted in Classic 30, but this amazing John Bolton back-up from the reprint was just as affecting for me. It tells a story of Murder World being set to kill Arcade and to show him images from his traumatic youth while doing so, in the end he finds out that he himself had programmed this to occur. Bolton had his start in horror comics and it's very apparent in some of the pages of this story. I love the reaction shot with the stylistic floating eyes behind Arcade, I usually use that as my PFP.

(while I have no illusions about owning a page from UXM #124, I do hold out hope of getting a color guide from that issue, if you have one of the Glynis Oliver guides and would be willing to sell please let me know!)

A shocking reveal to end the comic! So well paired with the reprint with a darker and more in depth story that made Arcade much more fleshed out as a villain. Bolton's pencils can still be seen under his inks! The black backgrounds and high detail line contrast creates a void where you can feel Arcade's isolation.
