Description3rd straight BP add! This one by relative newcomer, Cory Smith, who I think deserves more pub. He’s been doing some really nice work for Marvel the last few years. I found his stuff on Weapon H, quickly nabbed a few pieces (check ‘em out in my gallery!), and am now glad to add another cover featuring both a fave hero in BP and a fave villain in Taskmaster! I love the designs of both guys, for opposite reasons – the “simpler” BP look vs. the “busier” Taskmaster one. Both equally awesome.Great overall composition in the way the energy (and Taskmaster’s teeth!) emanates out from BP at the center. Lots of killer detail, too, and I love how that foreground energy is kind of mixed in with the background Taskmaster head. Cool effect. BP’s got those lines on his costume indicating stored kinetic energy – a nice added detail to the image. What’s funny, too, is that this piece immediately made me think that it was a visual representation of BP telling Taskmaster to shut up. As we know, Taskmaster’s a talker. Not Deadpool level but definitely up there. And as I write this I realize…I need more Taskmaster art! Thanks, Cory, and rep Paolo at Cadence Comic Art! Social/Sharing |

Fantastic cover, didn't realize you were such a TM fan. Love BP shutting him up and breaking through his face. Beautifully done and a great find, congrat!

This is reminscent of the Jungle Action 14 where Black Panther opens the mouth of a dinosaur.
Taskmaster needs new braces.
Dental Plan.

I didn't make that connection as far as the Jungle Action 14 cover (Gil Kane!) - good callout! Y'know, T'Challa doesn't make the same mistake twice. I'm thinking he thought "next time I'm in this situation, I'll be ready" :) And something tells me TM may have had a tooth or 2 knocked out before. I think he's got his go-to dentist and plan set up. Tactical dude, right? :) Thanks, Marcus, and all, for the comments - much appreciated, as always!

Another killer pickup. Modern comics are blessed with a tremendous generation of artists like Smith.

Love love love the composition -- and the raw energy --- of this cover! Gets me all revved up! Mainly because Black Panther looks like he's ready to bust out of there, but also that huge skull head of Taskmaster is very daunting. Things are about to get cuh-razy! Corey Smith is firing on all cylinderds here. Congrats, K!

Thanks, Travis! And like with many other artists you were in-the-know before a lot of the rest of us! So I definitely emphasize "relative" when I say "relative newcomer" in the description :) I look forward to seeing more of his stuff!

Ahhh, the classic "villain looming overhead" cover layout. I never get tired of it! I haven't really read many Taskmaster appearances, but visually speaking he has always been at the top of my list of killer looking villains! Mind you, I've always loved skulls and skeletons in illustration of any kind, so that definitely is one of the primary reasons. As a huge bonus, you get the Black Panther!

I imagine this cover layout's been used as often as it has cuz it's so effective! As you say, we never get tired of it! And Taskmaster - definitely one of the best designs ever. Got so many different elements, including from other characters, but all meshed perfectly making the look all his own. The skull is the capper. And for you particularly I'd guess based on your skull/skeletion art affinity :) As you note, lots of checkboxes checked with this cover. Thanks, Ruben!

"Kinetic" is indeed the keyword for this slab of awesomeness, K! Yowza! So much explosive energy here... I absolutely agree with you: the Taskmaster design is an all-time great one, but even among all the other glorious "noise" here (the leering skull mask, the "looming head of the villain" layout), my eye is still drawn to the "calm" within that storm; T'Challa buckled down and getting things done. LOVE the texture designs on his costume here; that Panther's got teeth (even if Taskmaster is now short a few)! Another awesome add, K! Congrats!

Good point about the calm within the storm - totally get the sense T'Challa's just taking care of business in his no-nonsense way! Also got some "noise" with those speed lines between the energy crackle - I imagine getting all that done must've taken Cory some time. Of which I'm very appreciative :) Thanks, Jason!

Someone didn't learn to take smaller bites...And now we need to see the dentist. Did we learn our lesson, Mr Taskmaster? I love this old school style cover, with so much crackling energy. It's reminiscent of an old Masters of Evil or Dr Doom cover. Cory Smith killed it. This is awesome. Big congrats!

Yup, you're right - Skeletor guesting in Taskmaster's book AND making a variant cover appearance! The actual main cover has the 2 doing a jumping high five - "the hooded Skelebros!" ;) Thanks, duke!
