DescriptionJust saw Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and loved it. And with Sanford’s contribution to the movie and last week’s subsequent successful art drop with Felix, I thought it’d be an apt time to post this beaut. No, not a piece from the movie, but still IMO one of Sanford’s best images to date. No bias :)I had a great non-published piece of classic Power Man and Iron Fist (https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1409560) that I picked up from the 2017 Heroes Con auction (was awesome seeing him work on it there at the show) but have been keeping an eye out for that right published piece and this was it no doubt. Was done as a variant for StockX, the online sneaker marketplace. Upward perspective adds to the majesty, and I was yet to own a Black Panther piece with him atop a panther statue. Got art with panther statues in it, but not one with him on one. In that way this piece also reminded me of the first poster I remember promoting the first BP movie. Gotta love the crouching pose, and the more scratchy inks paired with block blacks AND spatter give a nice gritty overall feel. Also cool that Sanford went with the cape and collar to add to the drama – the King, indeed! Piece definitely pairs well with my BP #1 Stelfreeze and Keown covers :) I’ll be taking this one to Heroes Con this coming weekend to hopefully get a pic with Sanford, and have him sign the books He’ll also have some remarques there done on covers of the book – here are some: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cr9IYr1OmlF/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng== Lastly, if so inclined, check out the StockX interview with Sanford where he speaks on his affinity for BP: https://stockx.com/news/exclusive-artist-sanford-greene-on-drawing-the-black-panther/ See you at Heroes! A nice, dynamic upshot, plus you have the equivalent of Batman on a gargoyle. The spatter is a nice touch. I like the creepier looking, super long claws, too. Definitely hits the spot!

Seriously, man - I breathed a sigh of relief when I found out you scored this one... :) I mean, come on - where else should this one (-could- this one) ultimately end up? Another killer from the ever-amazing Sanford Greene. Even though the Panther is, of course, masked, I love how Sanford has lit it so that you just see the Panther's eyes here.. he looks like a man literally possessed... or on the hunt... feral or vampiric. Raw power; the undisputed king of the jungle. Incredible and powerful image here, K - sincere congrats that it's all yours!

Oh, YOU sighed, too?! :) I was quick on the trigger here but you never know! Definitely was waiting with bated breath, lol.
Yeah, there's an almost scary element to the image that I dig. Ruben noted the claws, you note the eyes...a vampiric kind of look. I agree, and I like that element - definitely matches, atop the statue, exuding that "best not mess with Wakanda" vibe! Thanks, Jason, and all, for the comments!

Sanford’s drawing, I don’t feel I’d lose
Am I dreamin’, is there more for us?
Got me feeling like it’s art of brush
He’s a beacon, and he won’t give up
He’s still fighting (Gearon), I don’t feel I’ve lost
Are you kiddin’, are there shoes for us?
Got me feelin’ like he’s now blow up
I feel Greene is, but I can’t get ‘nuff
Uh (No way), wakin’ up, feelin’ like the Panther one
Raise up the cup, lacin’ up my Jordan ones
One of a kind, one of one, Wakanda son
Got one shot and one chance to take it once (No way)
Kiss T’Challa on the forehead, ‘for I get Milaje
‘Cause I was born, bred to draw and ink it
And won by fortune, Jabari sneak’heads
Then my spreadsheet jungle, with my homies (No way)
All get focused, all range of StockX
For nickname, He’s the king that do the mostest
Kill Mongerin’ down bad in Oaktown crib
Vibranium to the bank and the joke is (No way)
They want things them folks did or folks get
Greene’s been gettin’ this fly since we poor kids
My rich friends and my broke friends co-exist
They love to mix ’em, we know what art is

You did it again, Marcus - "he's the king that do the mostest"
And great song choice - after I watched the movie, been listening to it often. Both Into and Across the Spider-Verse scores and soundtracks are straight FIRE. Appreciate the your creativity of comment, man!

Even though I'm not a fan of the cape and cowl, this is a GREAT and intense cover.

A very nice and cool addition to your BP collection. The best one of that character on CAF, by the far! Huge congrats Kahlil!

Black Excellence! Sanford is always cool when I see him in person so it's nice to see that people are finally giving his work the praise that's due. Congrats on scoring the #1 cover to your favorite character. Superb addition to your collection.

Thanks, V! Yeah, man, Sanford is such cool dude and nice guy. I talked with him for awhile at Heroes Con 2017. I had recently found his work at the time, from his run on Power Man and Iron Fist. I think that series is where a lot of us first saw his stuff. Was lucky to nab his auction piece from that show and take a pic with him - looking forward to doing that again this weekend with this piece :) Definitelly in agreement that we're happy seeing his profile grow - well deserved!

Sometimes you see a piece of art and immediately think "that belongs in ___'s collection" and often it doesn't. I am glad to see this in your collection as it is definitely where is belongs. Very strong BP cover - so glad you have this one!

Not sure why I hadn't seen this one before. This cover is stunning and 100% Sanford! Makes me wonder why he's not doing the Black Panther book. Congrats on getting this Khalil! It's precisely where it belongs.

Thanks, Ben! Would love to see Sanford do some more BP. I know he loves the character so I think we'll see some in spots, maybe non-published and some covers.
At Heroes I actually got a chance to talk with him a lot (NICE dude!), take a pic with him with the piece, and pick up a remarque with the published cover. So that was awesome, too. We'll have to catch up at the show next time!

Black Panther with the cape > Black Panther without the cape. I don't make the rules.
