DescriptionIt’s FF week (looking forward to this movie!) so thought I’d post this piece featuring their archnemesis, Doc Doom! From the oversized Avengers anniversary issue #50, legacy numbering #750.This version of Doom is Doom Supreme, an uber powerful incarnation of Vic, having conquered his own reality. Here he visits another, basically out of pure amusement, to potentially find a challenge. Does he think so?! No, not really – it’s Doom. But may as well try. He’s having a convo with Mephisto in snake form, who’s making Doom a proposition. Honestly for me it wasn’t about the story, but all about the 2 Doom shots. Full figure and in a version of the skin armor he made from the Unthinkable arc back in Waid/Wieringo’s run (one of my all-time favorite FF arcs). Arms folded high, definitely looking haughty, with them beady eyes. Then we zoom in for a closer shot in the bottom panel. Also like the Garden of Eden vibe with the prehistoric jungle setting and the snake. Thanks, KA, for letting me the get the page. Hope y’all dig it! Social/Sharing |

It's like that scene in Wayne's World when Tia Carrere asks, "Was that you? Or the snake?"

The snakes are always wet with rain
After a summer shower when I saw Doom standin'
In with Gearon in the garden wet with rage
Doom wiped the ink drops from your vines of sorrow
As we watched the metal call down to the ground
And as I sat beside you I felt Ed
McGuinness that page in the garden
And then one page Doom came back home
You were a Doctor all in rapture
You had the key to your soul
And you did warning that snake Doom came back to the garden

Okay, it's REALLY hard to speak about the merits of the overall page when the page has such a killer money shot, right? Damn, did you pick up a great one. Both the pencils and the inks are truly exquisite, melding into each other in perfect symbiosis. Plus, this has to be the only appearance of Doom talking to the snake in the Garden of Eden!

We need more Doom from McGuinness. He shows here that he's a great fit to give him that powerful, bulky look!

You don't see that many pages that Ed inked as well as penciled, not sure if Doom or the snake scares me more.

Great McGuiness page! Multiple shots of Doom with his arms crossed/folded plus a Mephisto snake!? Too sweet!

McGuinness inks and lines are a beautiful thing, and even better when they are on the same board. Love the use of the inset serpentine panels as well! The combination of Doom and a talking snake really makes for a fun interior.

Yeah, man, I've owned a number of McGuinness pieces over the years but this is the first where he inked himself...not bad, eh?! Not sure that snake is a copperhead but glad you still dig it ;)
Thanks for the add, T!

I like this one more and more each time I see it. The haughtiness of Doom is pitch perfect and almost palpable. Love that 1st panel as Mephisto slithers onto the scene in his snake form. And by the way, this issue was such a great read. Great McGuinness page, congrats!
