DescriptionPublished March 2019.Having just watched the wonderful Tales of the Jedi series that Disney+ dropped yesterday, I thought today would be a good day to post something tied to the prequel era. As a fan of Episodes II & III (and even aspects of Episode I) plus the Clone Wars animated series, I enjoyed the various “Age of Republic” one-shots that Marvel published in 2019. I wanted one piece of art from the books and was very happy that this was available. Cory Smith and Wilton Santos split art duties on this issue, and both did excellent work on this tale of the Senator from Naboo. I know that many people are critical of the acting in the prequels, but Natalie Portman gave a good performance with the material she was given. You’ll never hear anything bad about her in my house at any rate because as my wife says any time and any place her name comes up, her dad, Dr. Avner Hershlag, was our fertility doctor. As you might expect, he had pictures of his daughter up in his office. We knew ahead of time that he was Natalie’s father; otherwise, we might have thought on our first visit to his office that he was just a very big Natalie Portman fan. At any rate, he’s a phenomenal doctor and I’ve probably just shared way too much information. I tend to do that. Social/Sharing |

Thanks to Jeff Wedding, I was introduced to the sweet, delicate and very fine lines of Wilton Santos' Star Wars work. I dare say you may be making Jeff very jealous with this one, as it's a real beauty!

Jeff has an outstanding collection of Santos' Star Wars art. I have to guess that the only reason I have this is either he doesn't like Padme or I somehow beat him to the punch.

You must have beat me, as I wouldn't have left that one behind. Four or five us got the bulk of that issue between Cory's pages at Cadence and Wilton's at Chiaroscuro. I'm just happy to have managed the ones I got. But this is a beauty of a splash and a peach from that one-shot.
And had I gone to appointments with you (admittedly that would be weird in its own right) I would have referred to your doc as Padme's dad in all conversations.

Given the pictures that her dad had out in his office, we felt obligated to say that we were fans of his daughter (which was the truth).

As one musical artist who we know has an appreciation for comic book art, I'm sure Glenn Danzig would approve!

Lovely page. Her face is elegant, as is her flowing robe.

Looking back, I should have tried trading to him some Padme original art for a discount.

Beautiful piece in its own right, Michael, but when married to the most intriguing direction your write up and the ensuing comments took this in, this has to be one of my favorite recent postings on CAF. :) Love Padme's strength here, as well as how Wilton subtly captured the likeness of Ms. Portman. A fantastic piece, and your tie to it adds a whole other level to appreciate. Congrats on multiple levels here! :)
