DescriptionThis one basically unlocks an endless supply of awesome Silver and Bronze Age title declarations, right?“When Trouble Comes A-Knockin’…!” “If This Be A Splash Page…!” “The Salesman Rings But Once!” “Honey, I’m Home…!” Mike Perkins starts with the door, and ends up shearing this -page- off its hinges with an intense and stunning artistic statement. It feels like an assault on the senses, as the viewer is treated to an off-kilter worm’s eye POV (still reeling from an explosion) that is knocked off-center and bedazzled by the shafts of light (and snow and howling wind) streaming towards us. Enter Henry Hayes! (Ooh! Another Silver Age title…!) Mike’s inking prowess and exquisite use of washes and tones is on full display: the way he depicts the cold steel walls and harsh fluorescent lighting is -amazing- (I love the shadow of his head on the doorframe above him), but Deathlok’s shadowed figure and the Perkinsian atmospheric smoky wisps behind him destroys all comers… It feels like a comprehensive Perkins page, with solid examples of so many of the things he does so well. If we were reading the book, we’d be pulling our hair out at having reached this ‘To Be Continued’ point… if Mike hadn’t just blown it all off with this image. The way shadow bissects his face and legs is just perfect. Foreboding, imposing... we're fortunate when he's on our side.

".....an artistic mic drop of stunning intensity." What comment could anyone possibly come up with that could say it better than that?

Come on, come on, come on, come on
Ink brush me, Mike
Can't you see that Deathlok’s bringing pain?
How ‘bout that entrance Henry Hayes?
Making a splash in issue eight
How ‘bout ink washes Perkins made?
Now, I'm gonna frame you
As Mike Perkins breaks the pane
I'm gonna frame you
'Till the doors fall from the lines
For you and I

Looks like a scene played out in Marvel's version of Terminator!

Perkins certainly knows how to make an entrance!
Brings back to mind the movie poster for John Carpenter's The Thing. Killer splash!

Man, the molded metal doorway, the pipes up top, the whispy "smoke in the background, the explosive floor as it comes towards the camera? It all coalesces together to make Deathlok seem all the more imposing, which tells the viewer that this is one bad mofo who's gonna be kicking your ass!

Deathlok is already one of the most underrated characters in the Marvel stable but Perkins really levels him up even further. Majestic stuff.

The perspective makes the image even more powerful than it is!!! Amazing one!

Here it is in all its tilted glory. Moody fury at its best. I particularly love how Perkins kept his face shadowed here.

Lol, so he knocked the POV on its ass, and it's laying there insensate? Ha, Jason, that is just a brilliant description. And Deathlok! That angle is perfect, and the image oozes badassery. Deathlok is clearly all out of bubblegum...time to kick some butt. Great splash!

Mike Perkins has always been an impressive artist...but this. This. This is extraordinary. The ink washes and inking work in concert, the brilliant figurework. This is a masterpiece of mood and drama. Congratulations, my friend!

Wow. That is bad ass.
Always a big fan of the rotated lens but here it really feels like we've been injured or knocked down, from the force of that entrance. Super cool page.

I'm straight up thinkin' '90s action flick...the anti-hero a'comin'! Nice choice on a tilted perspective, and look at all the different elements used to frame 'Lok - from the exact details of the hall up top and around, to the steam/smoke, to that almost beam of light underneath. Whew. And PERFECT choice to have his face mostly shadowed. Suh-weet, indeed. Congrats!

Perkins knows how to add the appropriate level of dramatic tension to the pages he creates. An amazing talent creating a powerful splash.
