DescriptionDaily #22 in the series, dated June 1, 1961. Apparently, Kotzky was a big zipatone fan in the early days of this strip. Lots of dramatic shadows and lighting and drawing, drawing, drawing. These examples bare only a passing resemblance to his work on the strip by the end of the sixties. Chalk it up to the gruelling demand of churning out 6 dailies and a Sunday every week - with little help from assistants (to my knowledge).Check out June 2, 1961 which I also have for part two of the knife fight with the Prof saving the day. An excellent example, so beautifully constructed. It exhibits two key features that my On Stage daily which I spoke about during my Comic Art Live chat on YouTube exhibits. Composition and geometric shapes. The triangular composition in panel two is what could be found all over my On Stage strip. The first panel composition laid out to lead the eye from head to head as they get bigger and closer to us is almost identical to the final panel of my On Stage strip. This is so great to see. I can only hope Chris Snorek sees this and selects it as one of the "show and tell" pieces for next Thursday's Comic Art Live Update show!

Kotzky, Drake, Starr - my top three (in that particular order). Absolutely love your early Starr examples, Ruben!
