DescriptionI really enjoyed this series. I wanted to get a page showcasing Perkins's lush forested backgrounds and I love the character design he came up with for Woodrue. I also love the mood Perkins managed to evoke in this page. Thanks again to Ruben, who is great to deal with! Thanks for taking a look! Social/Sharing |

Very evocative page by Perkins. Not only he's able to tell a story, but he completely takes you in!

Always happy to transact with you, Artless! You know I have a love for Woodrue and that along with Perkins' ability to create depth utilizing various shades of gray, this page was a great choice! Just look at Woodrue in the 2nd panel, the realistic rendering combined with expert lighting technique make him creepy as hell. Love it!

It's never too late to get the art...
Swamp Thing has not been this well recieved since the Moore, Bissette, Totleben days. It did almost the impossible by bridging that series with a whole new lead as Swamp Thing through the concept that the character is part of the life force that is the Green, which was introduced in Moore's ground breaking "Anatomy Lesson". The highly acclaimed writing by Ram V allowed the artwork of Mike Perkins to fully flourish in this environment. The beauty of nature and the grotesque gothic horror are well presented in pages like this teeming with life and decay. While it may look busy and too complex at first, take a step back or reduce the screen percentage on your browser and you will see the page design and fully grasp what those wash inks are showing. It is one of the most unique experiences to see originals like this.
Again, it's never too late to get the art... until it's too late.

Lovely page. Man, Perkins really can capture the feel of the forest and this is a very nice example.

Fantastic page, aa! Yes - you're exactly right - grabbing a page from this great run that features Mike's gorgeous swamp washes (playing against the darkly inked foregrounds) is a necessity, and you picked a terrific example. Panel 1 is downright tranquil, but panel 2's beautifully realized fern fronds (and Woodrue's inked and striking- and partly decomposed - visage) is my favorite on the page. Even the shadow cast over Jen's face by her hand in panel 3... just really superb work all-around. Sincere congrats, aa - really beautiful pick up!

Mindblowingly beautiful Swamp Thing page by Mike Perkins! Wonderfully detailed backgrounds are the notable thing about this page. I don't remember the last time I've seen a comic book artist put this much effort into his backgrounds. But it's appropriate because here you have Jen and Woodrue exploring the forest and becoming aware of how interconnected we all are to the broad scheme of nature. I love the layers of forest Perkins creates by using ink washes for a background layer and then black inks on the foreground layer. It's so effective! And the amount of detail Perkins puts into every panel is just jawdropping. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
