Description

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, the comic series by Jhonen Vasquez (also the creator of the cartoon, Invader Zim), is one of my earliest loves in terms of indie comics. It was certainly the first series I ever bought in its entirety (from a high school friend). It had a huge impact on me in terms of my realization that there was more to comics than the superheroes and newspaper strips of my youth. It opened up a whole world of non-traditional comics in black-and-white, comics in which the drawings were not highly realistic nor idealized human figures, and allowed me to realize the value of stick figures in storytelling. Happy Noodle Boy (a comic within a comic) was the epitome of this for me in high school. As I have never seen a page of original art from the actual JTHM series for sale, I am glad to be able to add this sketch of a character from that series to my collection.

Awesome!! I'm curious where the OA for JTHM or Squee is. Would love to see it in person.

I would as well. Someday, when I get to a convention Jhonen is at, I'd love to ask him, and if he has it personally still, I wonder if he'd do an exhibit so his fans could ogle it in some capacity.
