Description

My new RRR piece (no, not the 2022 Telugu film, which is awesome by the way), and a nice surprise for my Philippine gallery room. But more on that later.

Honestly, I was never aware of Rey Macutay’s work before. Not surprising, as he is based overseas and works predominantly in the European market (as well as the Philippines of course). Had I not stumbled upon a (then) “new” piece in Ray Cuthbert’s fine gallery, this piece wouldn’t be sitting in my collection right now. I immediately made inquiries with Ray about his piece (not about buying it, but information about the artist, the art, and his source) and he very graciously pointed me in the right direction. I eventually made contact with Rey’s agent Rhandy, who gave me the lowdown on how Rey works and how/when artwork became available for sale. The good news/bad news in all of this is the fact that Rhandy is also a collector, so of course he already owned all the nice Macutay pieces I wanted. LOL! But he did have a few pieces available at the time and I happily chose this amazing God of War piece. Yes, it would’ve been nice to get a comic character instead of a video game character, but I’m still thrilled to have such a fine example of Rey’s talent and skill. Love the gritty, raw, intensity of this piece. Really nice work with the gray wash tones and just the right touch of color for dramatic effect. The fierce growl, the ominous pose - it all makes for a savage and powerful image.

Anyway, my thanks to the three R’s, Ray, Rey, and Rhandy, for helping me add another piece to my Filipino gallery. Each time I add something new here, I get more and more proud of what it represents. Thanks for taking the time.

Looks like he's ready to cleave his way through a battlefield! Killer!

That murder in the background really makes this piece for me.

Kratos probably has more fans than the average comic character.  Macutay's illustration shows how widespread and influential the God of War games have been across the globe and in a short amount of time.

No way!  Really?  Well, shows you how much time I spend playing video games, or how much I know about the industry.  Still would like to get an actual comic character by Rey at some point.  Thanks Marcus!

Killer peace, this character is well done, with the attributes that make this character really recognizable.

My daughter loves God of war. She used to play it all the time with my uncle. Beautiful detail. Love it.

Wait, your DAUGHTER loves God of War?????  Do you also sit her in front of the TV and pop in Tarantino movies while you're babysitting?  LOL!  Thanks for the comment buddy!  Hope you're doing well.

Tarantino is definetly a no go. Well at least until next week lol. She seemed quite fine with it and used logic on me saying it didn't bother her and she liked it because it felt like a puzzle. She hates scary movies, hates cussing, but for some reason kept telling me how much she loved it. I watched them play for about 30min once and it didn't seem too bad. Maybe I missed the bad parts. Either way she is a fan and will have to show her this later. Otherwise all is well. Just keeping very busy with the family and intermittently running around to look at birds (my other main hobby). Hope all is well with you.

Oh, sorry.  I thought you knew Fred was experimenting with a new art style.  I guess this will be known as his dark period.
