Description

I believe Paul was working on The Avengers or had maybe done a Black Knight story for Avengers Spotlight by the time I met him in Dallas in 1987. Can't remember for sure, but there was some reason why I thought he'd be the perfect character for Paul to draw for me. I've always liked the character for almost as long as I've been aware of him, although the first several times I ever saw him, he was a stone statue that Dr. Strange was trying to bring back to life! I remember when they finally freed him way back in Defenders #11 (or was it #12?), and I just thought he was the coolest. So I was really happy when they brought him back to the present, and eventually into the Avengers. As anyone who's ever met him can tell you, Paul Ryan is one of the nicest people in the entire world, and hanging around his table is a true joy. I spent a large part of that con flitting back and forth between his and Mike Zeck's table. This commission is done in pencil on 11x17 drawing paper.
