Description

New commission - I took a quick break from the Golden Age Brave & The Bold covers to get something different done by Bambos Georgiou - a recreation of the cover of All-Star Squadron #45.

... except, of course, that it isn't (or not quite, anyway).😉

As revealed by Roy Thomas, he had two covers worked up for that particular All-Star Squadron issue - the cover which saw print, drawn by Tim Burgard from a sketch by Arvell Jones, and a second one, again based on a layout by Arv and pencilled by him, but inked by Tim Burgard, which was then printed as a Golden Age Gallery pin-up.

And it occured to me, since it's a great-looking piece, that it might be fun to have it worked up as though it *had* been the cover, complete with the logo, DC bullet, issue number and price box, and the creator credits (I cheated a bit and had Bambos add the "DC Where Legends Live" corner box from issue #43 rather than the UPC barcode which is on the cover I own).

Looks good to me - hope you agree!

It is a more dramatic image of exiting the scene than the actual cover. Maybe they wanted to play up the mask on the ground more.

Having wished for decades for more All-Star Squadron comics, seeing new images like these gives me a feeling of joy. Awesome stuff.
