Description

Hugely faster than I expected - a third entry in my "All-Star Squadron covers which never appeared" collection. Unlike the previous two, this one doesn't appear to have been drawn as a cover but rejected - it saw print as Jerry Ordway's one-and-only internal page in the "America vs The Justice Society" mini-series in 1985, but as it's Jerry's reinterpretation of the cover of All-Star Comics #4, I thought it would make an appropriate cover for an alternate All-Star Squadron #67, which featured Roy Thomas' and Arv Jones' re-telling of the story from that Golden Age issue.

As to what this was *actually* drawn for - interesting question. If you look at the layout, it seems to me to be unlikely that it was drawn as an interior page, given the huge amount of blank space at the top of the image, but it's unlikely it would have been a cover.

My suspicion (and it's only a suspicion, as I have no evidence to support this) is that it may well have been drawn as a pin-up to appear in an All-Star Squadron issue --- but the Golden Age Gallery feature didn't start until All-Star Squadron #38, in October 1984, whereas this page is dated 1983. I think it's interesting, however, that All-Star Squadron Annual #2 featured Jerry's "own rendition" of the cover of All-Star Comics #3, also dated 1983. So could this have been intended for that Annual as well? Who knows...

As with the previous alternate covers (for issues #11 and #45), I thought it would be fun to have Bambos Georgiou redo the pin-up as an actual cover, complete with logo, DC bullet, credits and corner boxes - and as before he's delivered a fantastic piece of work.
